What if you eat to lose 1 pound for 6 out of 7 days per week and on one day out of the week you went a little over your calories . I don't mean like a lot over I mean like your maintenance is 1840 and you went to like 2500 and you also exercise throughout the week . Do you think with this scenario it would cause maintenance ?

    Are you absolutely certain about your numbers? Maintenance was calculated how? How are you obtaining your calories-eaten numbers? Using a digital food scale?

    I mean if you are set at "lose 1/2 lb" - the deficit you are given is 200-400 calories a day. It isn't much to play with, and it's really easy to eat up that deficit in a meal or two extra. A 660 calorie overage one time shouldn't make any difference, though. I usually do that every week and I'm still losing. You may show a slight uptick on the scale, but if you stay within your calories in general that week, it will drop right off again in a couple days.

    It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 lb. If you want to lose .5 lbs a week, you would only need a 1750 calorie deficit FOR THE WEEK. As long as your calories over the WEEK come out to a total deficit of 1750, it should work.

    Assuming that you measure correctly, my assumption would be that you'd lose about a pound per month. Your overage on the one day could eat up have of your deficits for the week

    I hope I didn't confuse . I mean if I eat to lose .5 lb for 6 out of 7 days and on the seventh day I go over my calories will I be able to maintain my weight and possible lose a little . How many calories over would it take for me to gain if I did that one day out of the week ? My maintenance is 1840 and to lose half a pound a week it gives me 1590

    It takes 3500 extra calories to gain a pound. You can figure out your week however you want. You need to come out at or under maintenance level at the end of the week (roughly) to maintain your weight.

    By my calculations, assuming that the figure of 1840 calories per day to MAINTAIN your weight is accurate:

    A. 1840 x 7 = means you need 12,880 calories per week to maintain. If you want to lose .5 lbs, you need to have a deficit of 1750 cals per week. Therefore you have a TOTAL CALORIE "budget" of **11,130** (12,880-1750) to spend for the whole week.

    B. If you want to eat your maintenance calories (1840) one day per week, that means that you still have **9290** calories left to divide among the other 6 days (11,130-1840=9290)

    C. 9290/6= 1548 calories per day x 6 days.

    C. Bottom line, if you-
    * Eat 1548 calories for 6 days = 9288 cals
    * Eat 1840 calories 1 day a week= 1840 cals
    * You will have eaten 9288 + 1840 = 11,128 total calories for the week.
    * That will give you a deficit of 1752 calories. Since it takes a 3500 cal deficit to lose 1 lb, a 1750 cal deficit SHOULD give you a net loss of .5 lbs for the week.

    D. Now I'm going to take a nap. That was strenuous! :)

    You're welcome.

    PS- the above is assuming that you don't do any exercise. You could always just "earn back" the extra calories that you want to eat on the 7th day- and in that case, you could just use the figure it's giving you to lose .5 lbs a week and eat that number (1590 cals) 6 out of 7 days. On the 7th day, eat your maintenance calories (1840) but make sure that sometime during the week you get an EXTRA 250 cals worth of exercise.

    Eating one day at maintenance calories and the rest at 500 deficit would equal almost say .8lb loss, perhaps more, it depends how active you are, as that can increase the deficit and mean you could still lose that 1lb.

    Just do the math. 3500 calories to lose one pound. If you're set at half a pound per week, you get a 1750 deficit.

    Honestly hard to do the math for you though as I'm guessing the 1840 don't include exercise? I've been pretty much maintaining eating at a 0.75 lb a week deficit and eating over a couple times a week.
