I sometimes wonder if I need my head read. Last week I walked 2 km, then the return home 2 km I walked, jogged, walked. I felt good about myself. I wonder if there are people out there who have taken this step. How do you feel? Have your joints stood up to the challenge?

Hi @marjtrewin there are quite a number of regular posters on MFP who are over 60.
I am 62 also and work out in a number of different ways. Never did a thing until my mid 50's.
I did a 10km race the end of April. Walked not ran, I just don't run or jog. This particular race was slow but I was just off a cruise and had no training. I usually do a 9min/ km.

    I lift weights or do a bodyweight workout x 3 a week.
I also mix up through out the year what I do for cardio-
    Swim
    Aqua fit
    Zumba
    Pilates
    Belly dancing
    Rowing machine

My joints are fine, and having a weight lifting/ resistance type routine really helps.

Keep walking, it's good cardio especially if you can increase your speed, jog/run if you are able to handle the higher impact. If you can, start doing something that will help maintain your muscle and bone health.

    Cheers, h.

I'm 61 and have been on MFP for 3 years. I've always been active, but was falling into the trap of "as you get older, you should rest and do less". MFP and the people on here set me straight--You have to do more, not less, and push yourself slowly to your limits. I have OA and am stiff and sore as soon as I don't move. I swim and do acqua gym 3x a week, yoga, lots of walking and started weights last year. I am alot better than I was 5 years ago and for my age feel awesome. My posture has improved with lifting. I say--Go for it! What have you got to lose?
