I have read several forum posts where people say "kitten" and I'm just wondering what that means. Is that a MFP thing or am I just an Old and don't understand the lingo these days?

A kitten is a baby cat. Sometimes, when a lady cat and a man cat like each other they kitten each other every chance they get. Sometimes the kitten is so good, and they aren't being careful and the lady cat gets knocked up. Then she has kittens (baby cats)1

MFP has a program in place to replace any swear words with *kitten*. It's also become something of a running joke since then.2
