Exercising in the heat...

Went on a jog tonight, I'd say it was about 95F outside. Within my 1st mile I was feeling fatigued. Not light headed or anything, but legs were heavy, and it felt like my endurance was not as it usually is (most my jogs are usually about an hour later in the evening, when temp is in the 80s or so).

I never really thought that the temperature could effect you THAT much so I figured I'd do some "research" and found this interesting study that was featured in Runners World (according to this gal's blog). Couldn't find any citations etc., so sorry for that as I'd prefer to post stuff that I know is only legit, however regardless thought I'd share if anything for discussion!

In short, the person being tested ran for 1 hour at a pace of 8 min 30 sec in both 53F room and the next day 90F room. Look at the difference in heart rate, etc. BTW this guy had to run for 1 hour with a wire up his rectum to monitor the temp. They said this was a "controlled" study however I don't care what they say- running with anything up there isn't normal conditions... nonetheless controlled though I guess. LOL

Either way- stay safe and hydrated out there in this summer heat everyone! Esp those on the west coast!
