Aloha! I'm Kristen and I have a screwed up body!
A long, long, time ago I was a normal teenage girl. Who got knocked up. Gained a little weight but nothing out of the norm. At the insistence of my doctors I took the depo shot. Gained 50 pounds. Got married, had another kid, had the depo shot and gained another 50 pounds. Did it again. (I'm a slow learner). Then, ONE MORE TIME, because, well....
Anyway, four kids, 420lbs later, gastric bypass, and 3 emergency stomach surgeries due to complications from a kind of good but somewhat flawed gastric procedure,I got down to 217 (my lowest since age 17). Didn't pay attention and gained up to about 260 (give or take a few water pounds).
Fast forward to 4 weeks ago today (April 12, 2016). Heard from a friend about a diet jump start that was ketogenic in nature. Started researching it and tried it. Well, other than one week of plateau and a decent little bout of the keto flu, here I am, 20 pounds lighter by the scale and probably an additional 5 pounds in water weight. I'm sitting at 236.8 as of this morning. Naked. After going to the bathroom.
Well, I'm trying to find friends who's bodies are just done with them. I research and research and research and can't seem to find kindred spirits.
You've read my history, now let me tell you the ONLY way I have ever lost weight (which is now).
My diet is: <20g carbs a day on a 60% Fat, 30% Protein, and 10% Carb breakdown. Also, I'm maxing out at 800 calories and I walk 1 mile a day (in addition to regular excercise.
This is too low!!!! (I can see you screaming it at me...stop it!). I have followed all the rules. So many times. I did high intensity weight training and interval training while following a 1200-1500 diet, I've done cardio, I've followed the rules, I've done low fat, I've tried eating more, I cut out soda, I ate like a rabbit, I've tried soup. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING! I don't have insurance, I don't see a doctor, but I research, research, research. My body has been in starvation mode for 6 years because of the complications from the gb.
I'm not normal. I don't absorb protein, or iron, or other stuff (apparently I DO absorb pizza and spaghetti and stuff). I can't eat a lot at one time even if I tried.
So there it is... Are you anythig like me. Has your body been through hell to the point that NOTHING works unless it is extreme? If so...we can be friends. I'm tired of people telling me that 1200 calories a day and some treadmill work will do wonders for me... NO IT WON'T.
There ya have it!

Hi! I'm Debbie. You pretty much described me. Maybe not the depo and kids, but the weight struggles. High of 325+, (before I quit weighing), then lost to 280lbs by what felt like starvation. Then had Gastric bypass and lost to 159lbs. But, after back surgery 3 yrs later, and difficulty exercising afterwards, I starting gaining back. Nothing worked to lose the weight after that. Then in April I started Keto. I've lost 20lbs in a month eating 20g carbs (5-7%), 75% Fat; 15-18% Protein and anywhere between 800 to a max of 1,400 cal depending on my level of hunger. Due to injury, I'm not currently exercising unfortunately. But, I am staying in Ketosis well and not really having any trouble staying in this new eating plan at present. I pray that it will continue to help me get some more of this weight off and be able to get active again. I am currently at 197lbs and hope to get to the 160's. I am doing a lot of experimenting because my body too has always been very screwy and generally doesn't respond the way others' seem to. But at least for now my body is responding to this way of eating. Feel free to correspond.0
