So for the past 4 weeks I've been working extremely hard...

I seem to be gaining muscle mass but not losing body fat which is making me appear bigger??

I Def feel more toned and stronger but feel bigger...

An eg of my diet:

Breakfast: 40g oats and protein shake
Snack: 70g chicken. 80g. Sweet potato. 70g pineapple.
Lunch: same as above
Snack: apple. 70g chicken and cup of green veg
Dinner: 1 whole egg 3 egg white omelette with 40g mozzarella

I do cardiovascular 5 days a week... about an hour each day.. and 45 min weight training 5 days a week.

Any ideas of things I'm doing wrong or should I just continue and things will come right?

thinking you are gaining muscle mass is what you are doing wrong.....

You are probably experiencing water/glycogen stores...retention.

If you have just started exercising it could be water retention.
If you are not eating at a deficit it could be weight gain.
It is probably not a muscle gain.
A woman can usually only gain .5-1 lbs of muscle a month and that is if she is on point with diet and a lifting programme.

Accurate logging using a food scale for solids and measuring cups for liquids, and eating at a deficit will help you lose the fat.

Muscle strength can be gained without gaining muscle mass. You are getting stronger and healthier so keep up with the exercise and tighten up your logging.

    Cheers, h.

Gain muscle or lose body fat your going to have to pick one of those goals I'm afraid. If you are in a deficit then your body will not have the raw materials to build muscle and likewise if you are in a surplus your body has no reason to burn fat.

In a deficit, newbie gains are possible especially if you eat a lot of protien

Yes agreed especially if you have a lot of excess weight too. But this is special and is limited. I wouldn't be relying on newbie gains for too long.

Good question. I thought my biceps were bigger but when I remeasured them I saw they were actually smaller.

Just a note... I've been consistently exercising for over a year... its just the last 4 weeks I've been focusing on diet..

I do measure myself... I'm due to do it again Sunday so we'll see...

Water retention may be a thing?

Absolutely. You are definitely not gaining muscle if you are eating at a deficit. It is not possible (except for the rare exception listed above).
