Business trips dieting

I have been travelling a lot for work and don't get any meals cooked myself. I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for ordering out while trying to lose weight like what things I should avoid, good snacks or places to go etc. It's frustrating having just hotel gyms and going out every meal so any help is appreciated.

On business trips I often have soups (and leave the bread), salads with dressing on the side. I also eat a fair bit of fish and ask for sauces to be on the side or withheld.
Another one looking around: usually you can see what the portion sizes are as they go to other tables. If I see large portions I order a starter as my main meal.
If there is a breakfast buffet I will take some fruit as a snack. If there is a little shop near or in the hotel I will buy fruit or snack vegetables there. If they have it salads.
When I am going out for dinner I try to make it a restaurant where I can walk to and back to get some excersise (and fresh air) that way.
As I generally do not have to travel often (about 2-3 times per year ranging from 4 to 10 days) I have opted in a few cases to go into maintenance those trips.1 -
I travel quite a bit, and make use of the local Whole foods when possible - I try to hit their salad bar, or soup, or sushi for lunch with a yogurt and fruit. For restaurants I do a lot of fish and chicken with salads.0

when eating out pay attention to portions, a lot of places do tasty salads and throw the dressing on the side- no croutons. If you like soups, remember that brothy almost always beats creamy and the more veggies the better. Take the MFP app with you- you might find your restaurant in the database, and be able to browse ahead of time - or look at local restaurants for online menus to plan ahead for meal times.
Control the stuff you can. Use the stairs- I did this on a recent vacation. We were on the 4th floor and made several trips to and from our room, so the stairs actually were a great workout, lol. Walk where you can, park farther from the hotel when possible. etc.
The same rules youd use for home use for traveling. One day we were super hard pressed for decent places to eat, and I hit up the local grocery store for a build-your-own salad. It wasn't elegant but it worked.0
