Does anyone have advice on losing weight while on bed rest. I sprained my knee and am not supposed to walk, even with crutches, unless it's absolutely necessary for the next 2-8 weeks. I'm terrified of stopping my progress or even gaining.

Set your calories to maintenance and eat those. I hope you feel better soon. Bed rest sucks!1

That does suck. Sorry to hear you are hurt. check with a physcial therapist but while I was recovery from my knee sugeries some of the bed exercises I did were leg raises, ankel pumps wind mills, and back arches and clam shells. Again check with your Doctor or therapist. Prayers for a quick and total recovery0

Reduce your calorie intake to compensate for your reduced activity. Simple as that.
By the way, "sprained knee" is one of those dagnoses doctors make when they don't know exact what's wrong with your knee. If it doesn't improve in a couple weeks, consider seeing a specialist.0 -
There are some upper body chair exercises you might be able to do -- check with the doc.

get a wheelchair-the red cross rents- and wheel places. Very hard work for upper body and will greatly improve your fitness. Get an elevating footrest-leg support-if needed.1

During the first two months of my weight loss, I was sitting almost all day long due to some health issues. I was losing as expected and I lost 4kg in two months (I have 15kg to lose in total, I'm 69kg now). I was carefully measuring all my food with a digital scale and I was eating at the deficit that MFP has suggested (around 1200-1300cal/day is what I ate on average). To compensate for the lack of movement I set MFP to lower height than mine.
You don't need to move to lose weight. You need to eat at a deficit.2 -
Weight loss is done through a calorie deficit. So, reducing them will help during bed rest.
However... bed rest implies an underlying medical condition (I doubt you are grounded by your parents whom have a weird philosophy of forcing you to stay in bed the whole time)... which means your body should get plenty of nutrition and calories during this time for recovery.
So, eating at maintenance will be a much better thing.1 -

Its a level 2 LCL sprain. The ligament is damaged but intact. If I can't bear weight still after two weeks than the tissues won't repair naturally and I will have care transferred to an orthopedic surgeon.0 -
Thanks for all of the great advice guys. I've switched my diet to two protein shakes plus dinner and am approved to use up to 10lb hand weights for seated upper body work outs. I'm feeling much more optimistic and confident about this.1

I recently had surgery and had to spend two weeks on the couch. I still lost during that period just eating my caloric goal set at "sedentary".1

That's what I ended up doing and I got a quality shake that fills me up for 2 of my daily meals to stay in that new limit.0 -

It turned out to be a torn meniscus after my MRI. I get to start rehabbing without surgery tomorrow.1 -
