Hi! in a few days my family is going on a weeklong trip. We'll be in a hotel and I'm trying to conserve money by not eating out all the time. My husband will be in meetings the whole time, so it is me and my 19 month old son. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to sneak away to exercise, and if not, hopefully we can take walks with the stroller if it's not too blazing hot outside. As far a food goes, i'm taking a small roller cooler and non-perishables so my son and I don't have to eat out a lot--a toddler in a restaurant three times a day by myself does NOT sound like fun. Does anyone have expereince with a situation like this who could offer helpful tips? One of my biggest concern right now is protien that doesn't need to be refridgerated. Even better if a 19 month old would like to eat it. I have some nuts and stuff, but I think that might get old after a while. No refridgeration is guaranteed in the room. We'll have a cooler with ice.

Any tips for traveling with a 19 month old in a hotel, exercising, or eating right in a situation like this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Love MFP!

Ok, I can't help you with your son but I can tell you what I do when my husband and I travel.
Depending on how long we will be gone, I try to go ahead and put our daily snacks into sandwich bags and mark them for each day. They are all snack that don't have to be refrigerated, like turkey jerky, soy nuts or regular nuts, etc. That way by snacks between meals are taken care of.
As far as protein goes, we always eat a protein bar for breakfast or take our protein powder with and we buy the little milk bottles in a store every morning and mix it in with that. But all our snack contain protein as well.
Now lunch and dinner always depends because usually we grab something to eat somewhere. But at least I have taken care of breakfast, and all snacks.
In your case, though I don't know your eating habits but it is something I would do, you could take some fruits with and eat a large fruit bowl for lunch, or buy a fruit bowl in the grocery store. Or bring some wheat wraps and a can of tuna and make a tuna wrap every day. But when we travel I always have a cooler with me too and have had cheese and turkey or ham in there and I have never had anything go bad before. Just keep putting fresh ice in every day.
That way you only have to to worry about dinner and you can probably just go out to eat with your son once per day.

Hope that helped you a little :)
    Have fun!

There is vigourous work out called add-ons or even the matrix that you can get off the internet for free via u-tube. They just require about four feet of space and small hand weights. I do these when travelling. They are quick, efficient and space conscious. I also like to get fit mags and do the routines that are shown in them when I travel. I f you have access to a dvd there are yoga with baby routines. As far as entertaining a 19 month old, bless your heart with that one!!! I travel with an activity basket. I have five year old twins! The basket has changed since they have grown, but the principle is the same. I keep a selection of new things that they have not seen before that we only take when we go. I bring them outy as soon as boredom sets in. I am also a pre-school teacher so I have this one amazing trick that kids love. A simple wash basin or oversized bowl I do either water or sand play. With the sand I have these awesome little mini trucks and diggers that I can set on a table and the kids can play safely. you will also need advil!! You will make wonderful memories I am sure!
