HRMs and boxing

Hi guys! I am looking to buy a HRM/fitness tracker. I've been doing so much research, but I still don't know which one will fit my needs. I do boxing, not actual boxing in the ring, but the training. Shadow boxing, bag, sparring, etc. I also take walks, and I'm starting a C25K. I would like a heart rate monitor that could track my workouts fairly accurately, but I see a lot of them that only count steps or are inaccurate. So, are there any other boxers here that have had good luck with HRM? Thanks!

Hi, look at the Scosche Rythym. It attaches at the forearm above wear the boxing glove hits. No chest strap. I used it for months. It never moved and gave fairly accurate (none are 100%) readings. It works well for any other workout too. There isn't an app for this hrm, so I just paired it with Endomondo.

Thanks, I'll look it up! I was looking at Moov as well because you can wear it around your ankle.

30-35 minutes of heavy bag work to start every workout day. Polar300 with HRM. Love it, and love the bag work.

There are so many trackers out there, I can't keep up with all of them, so I won't say there are none that will meet your needs. However, any HRM-based tracker will overestimate calories burned doing upper-body exercise like boxing. That's because upper-body exercise tends to elevate HR out of proportion to oxygen uptake--in order words, you burn fewer calories at any given HR than you would if you achieved the same HR while running. Doesn't mean you can't use them--you'll just have to allow for that.
