Treadmill Safety Clip - Highly important

I'm writing this story to tell you how important the safety clip is.
I have recently bought a treadmill, and after a few days of using it, I stepped on it once without clipping the safety clip to my clothes. That led to a terrible accident. While walking, I zoned out for a flash of a second , to find myself at the end of the belt struggling to stay on the treadmill or stop it. But I couldn't . Had I been wearing the safety clip , I might have been able to stop it and avoid the injury.
My foot got stuck between the moving belt and the huge cupboard right behind the treadmill. In less than ten seconds, two or three layers of skin were removed from my foot. And for the following two weeks, moving was extremely painful. I even doubted that my foot was broken because of the pain.
Two months now and the scar scares me. I hope it goes away. It's definitely better, but it's still there.
In short, don't underestimate the safety clip.
Thanks for reading.

    I'm going to bookmark this thread. I've been looking for a treadmill and didn't even realize this is why those little cords were on the machine.

    Sorry about your accident, hope it keeps on healing! Totally agree, my treadmill is close to the wall at the end of the band, and just the thought of getting wedged in there because of a misstep makes me clip every time!

    @coocoo, sure.
    @Nadia, Thank you. after the accident, I feel the same. I even noticed that I got worried when my sister used the treadmill. I was so afraid for her. You know the kind of obsession you get after an accident. Thank God I'm better now.

    This is good advice to give someone...but did you read the owner's manual regarding set up and safety? In my owner's manual it specifically states that treadmill should have at least 8 (possibly more) feet of clearance behind it for safety. It also states that there should be clearance on all sides. It's honestly been a while since I set mine up in my basement. I don't think anyone pays attention to this. This is so if you happen to fall that you will clear the belt. There have been numerous accidents regarding treadmills set up in bedrooms or small rooms with minimal clearance.
    Sorry that you had to learn this the hard way.

    Yes, it is very important, but even if you do have the clip, you have to be careful and make sure it's clipped securely. When I first got mine, I lost my balance, fell off and went flying off the end and the clip wasn't on strong enough to pull off the key and it just came right off of my shirt. I was literally butt hurt. :) Luckily, there's a lot of space at the end so I didn't get any parts trapped, just a sore bottom. I can laugh about it now but it did really hurt because it's in my garage and even though there's a thin layer of carpet, it's concrete slab underneath so it was a hard fall.

    And you have to call someone out on it? Really?

    Thank you.
    Yes, I think I read it, and the technecians who assembled it gave me a lot of guidelines. But the problem was that I underestimated them. I barely had room for it, so I had to put it there. And I never thought that the clip is really important.
