Hi all, I am looking for some supportive comment and motivation to get me started on shifting around 80lbs. Its taken 5years for the weight to creep up, and I've been well aware of the creeping however my willpower is around 0 and nothing I've tried has worked or I haven't been able to keep it up. Am actually becoming rather desperate now, I have 3young children so my time is limited meaning trips to the gym are impossible. I can do this though, right??

Of course you can do this. Stop doubting yourself. Once you "KNOW" you can, then nothing will stop you from achieving your goal.

You can do it. The first six months of my diet I lost 42 pounds just by calorie counting, no exercise at all. I only recently started exercising. I eat anything I want with a couple of adjustments. I have limited fried foods to cut down on saturated fats and I replaced pastries and desserts with fresh fruit or low calorie fat free yogurt and low cal fat free rice or tapioca pudding.

    1) Setup your info on your MFP profile and tell it how much you want to lose per week. This will give you your daily calorie goal.

    2) Get a digital kitchen scale and weigh everything by the gram. It may seem like a task at first but once you get used to it, it doesn't take long at all

    3) Log everything you eat, even down to condiments. I get my phone or tablet and log the meal before I eat.

    4) When entering an item in your diary from the database or a scanned bar code check the nutrition info against the label on the product. Many of the entries in the MFP database are user submitted and there are sometimes keying errors. Manufacturers also sometimes change their product which changes the nutrition data. I prefer to create my own food entries in the "My Foods" tab and leave them set to private. That way they are only available to me and I am the only one who can make edits to them.

    5) Weight loss isn't linear and it will fluctuate, so don't get discouraged. Some weeks I have lost 3 or 4 pounds, others only half a pound and there were two weeks were I gained a pound or two. I log my weight into a spreadsheet I created to look at my current weight against what I had projected for the week.

    6) Weigh at the same time of the day wearing the same type and weight of clothing, shoes etc. The best time to weigh is in the morning after the bathroom and before eating or drinking anything for the day. I usually weigh in once a week on Sunday or Monday mornings.
