Vacation weight gain

Just weighed in after my week long vacation in Florida with my family. Cannot believe I gained 3 pds in a week.
I knew I would gain some, but wow! Trying to just jump back on the wagon. So afraid I will get off track and gain my 20 lbs back. Got 30 to go so it seems like a long ways to go. Would like to be done by my birthday in October, but am not setting that goal in stone. I have previously lost 20 lbs and then just stopped trying and gained it all back. I don't want that to happen this time. Guess I am just looking for some words of wisdom and encouragement so I don't do that again. I want to be skinny and healthy. I am going back to work out tonight and I know that is going to be really hard, but I figure I have to start back somewhere. Any advice or encouraging words would be greatly appreciated. :ohwell:

Vacations can wreak havoc on a diet :/ For future reference...try to stay close to your normal (diet) eating patterns. You may still gain, but it will not be huge. I went away for 4 days - had lobster (not bad) but also BUTTER..the real stuff lol I also had breakfast sandwich from Dunkins, a 3 muskateers etc. Stuff I would in NO way eat at home. I did not gain this week but I also kicked in some workouts and I still not lose my normal amount.
Make sure even on vaca that you are getting some calorie burning in to off set your extra calorie intake. I have a cruise coming up in March (hopefully after I meet goal) and it scares the life out of me LOL
I plan on semi tracking and choosing the healthier versions of food. When out on vaca it is easier to get into the mind set of " I am on vaca...Im not dieting this week" That is everyone's mistake.

you had fun...was it worth 3 lbs is the question?? If so - don't sweat it :) If not..remember that your next time away from home so you can make better choices.

Today is a new day - start fresh and move on no beating yourself up :)

I gained 12lbs in three days, and lost 5lbs the first day back home. You really need to have a better understanding of how your body works before you get all bent out of shape over nothing. It's just water weight, and as long as you get back to your normal eating habits you will drop it quickly. Heck 3lbs you could drop in a day if you drink enough water.

    Agreed.
I went on a 3 day mini vacation and the scale said I had gained 10 lbs. I weighed myself the next morning and I was already down 5. It's probably mostly water weight/retention from extra sodium consumed or whatever the case may be. Why can't people just go on vacation and enjoy themselves without worrying too much? You live once and 3 days of vacation isn't going to ruin your progress over all.

I just got back from a long weekend. Gained 2. Don't stress - drink plenty of water, you likely ate more salt than normal during your trip if you ate out a lot. Now that you're home - get right back on track. None of that well I already did bad so lets keep going nonsense. Just grab that water bottle, get a nice workout in and get back on track. Those 3 lbs will be gone in no time.

I'm with everyone else. It is most likely water weight. The scale showed a 3 pound gain after a "bad" weekend and I was back to my regular weight two days later.

Look online for local gyms where you will be vacationing. Many of them will allow you to use the site for a small fee. I worked out most days on my recent vacation and managed to keep things under control. I didn't gain/ I didn't lose. So now it is time to get serious again!

I came in here to brag about my 8 lb gain, but I guess I'll just go kick some rocks. :)

But yeah - what this guy said. Take a deep breath. It's all gonna be OK.

Most likely water weight. I've gained more than 3 pounds in a single day, let alone a week.

Haha sorry this really isn't typical, but my wifes AC broke in her car for our 5 hour drive home in 95 degree weather, and I drank way more than I sweat out! Normally on a three day vacation I would see about a 5-8 lb gain!

Sadly for me, my last vacation killed me on the scale. I went up about 6 pounds (even though I did tons of walking). And now 3 weeks later, I am still up 3. :(

It is most likely only water weight. I have other problems that are compounding things.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the comments. I went back to work out at Curves last night and am back on track with my eating. I did eat a lot of salt while on vacation, did not think about water weight. I am sure the pizza, chips, burgers, etc did not help any. I previously gave up my diet after losing 20 lbs and I guess I was afraid I was going that way again. Thanks to Curves, I am not just eating better, I am getting healthier.

Did you really gain 3 lbs? I always 'gain' at least 5 lbs while on a vacation due to extra sodium in the diet (and alcohol) which leads to water retention. I went to Vegas 2 weeks ago (spent a week there eating and drinking and walking and even got in 4 short runs). The day I got back I was 6 lbs up. 4 days later was my official weekly weigh in day and I actually lost 1 lb while in Vegas. The phantom weight was really just water retention.
