Spouse not supportive of healthy lifestyle change

I am a mother and wife and I'm starting this road to living a healthier lifestyle. I want to set an example for my kiddos as well, but my hubby is downright unsupportive. It makes meals and exercise a real stuggle. His take on living a healthy lifestyle: he's allergic to veggies and water

You can't control what he does or eats, cook for yourself and your kids and he can be on his own to make his own meals or tv dinners or what have you. A lot of us end up making separate sides or meals for ourselves. For example, we might make tacos but I'll have my fillings on top of a salad and he'll have his in taco shells. Your SO might come around and start wanting the things you're making, he might not.0

My boyfriend is the same way however after a few weeks of me really committing and him realizing there is nothing he can say or do to stop me he is okay and supportive and willing to go on walks with me now0

Which one of you is the cook? In my house, my husband is the cook. He loves to cook for people and since I'm the only one in the family concerned about calories (our teenagers are stick-thin), he will make whatever and not think much about calories. If he makes something that will put me over my calorie goal, or will not help me meet my protein goal, I will just make myself something else. He also loves new recipes, though, so I got a subscription to "Cooking Light" magazine and he makes a lot of things out of that. Good stuff! Maybe healthy versions of his favorite foods? My husband will make a veggie for me and cheesy potatoes for the rest of the family. Sometimes they will also eat the veggies when they see them so there is hope!0

Thanks for the advice. It's getting to that point where I'll probably not cook for him anymore if it's constant complaining of not having enough salt or why I substituted ground turkey for ground beef. I think the TV dinners will suit him just fine. however, his unhealthy eating habits are rubbing off on our kids. If they ask for a second serving I'll insist that their first serving was enough.....but he'll let them have seconds and let them eat leftovers. It's just frustrating.0 -
@nahmm83 It's always hard to change eating habits, stop smoking, or otherwise change your lifestyle with an unsupportive spouse. Sometimes spouses even subconsciously undermine your efforts. This is not abnormal or unusual, but it makes it harder, so you have a challenge ahead of you. However, if you take care of your own needs and serve as a positive role model for your children without giving them a food complex, it will probably all work out eventually. I hope it does! Good luck!
