While losing weight our clothes obviously start to get too big. So when did you go shopping to buy smaller clothes, how much weight did you lose?
I've lost over 40lbs and my clothes are loose but still fit lol I'll probably buy new ones at 60lbs loss!
Oh forgot to add my size 20 jeans were just too big to wear so I had to buy a size smaller
But other than that I'm wearing my old clothes

I went from a size 14 (173lbs) to a size 4 (125 lbs). Somewhere around 140-145 lbs, I bought a little bit of clothing (size 8) to carry me to my final goal. I saved all my gift cards and monetary gifts for the end result.
I lived in my workout clothes during my weight loss. It was easy since I'm a stay-at-home Mom. I used a diaper safety pin to keep my workout pants from falling off of me during exercise. lol Hey, I was at home and I didn't care. It didn't mess with my workouts. haha! Now I got nice fitting everything:-)6 -
I went from a size 20 at 243.5 pounds into a size 12 at 227 and then into a size 10 at 163 pounds0

Buying clothes that fit you, even as you lose weight, helps motivate you as well by letting you see your progress better. I was at 387 when I started and wearing 5x shirts with size 52 jeans. Around 335 my mom was visiting from out of state and wanted to go shopping and buy me some new jeans and by then I was able to get into size 46 jeans.
Now that I am down to 306, I am getting comments from people at work who know I am losing weight about how I need to get some smaller pants because "those are sagging pretty bad... but at least it isn't a fashion statement to you." So I will probably go this week and try on some 44's. I was pretty shocked that I was able to wear a nice 3x shirt this weekend and some of my old clothes are now an option again.
Like I said, buying them as you go down helps re-enforce how much you have lost. I am looking to get down to 225 and I certainly am not going to wait until then to buy clothes. I will just be giving better condition clothes to the Goodwill now, rather than throwing out clothes that are completely worn out.10 -

At my heaviest, years ago, I actually bought suspenders for my work pants. I didn't want to buy new clothes until I'd lost all the weight. It was maybe a little extreme but it was effective.2

I bought my first reward outfit after I had lost 50 pounds, and then I couldn't help myself after that. I did have a number of things that I got rid of at the beginning of this year, but only a few items truly went to waste. For the first time, I decided to remove everything that was too large from my closet once it reached a certain point of ridiculousness (like when I found myself wearing women's size 26 shorts when I was a women's size 18 or tops that were drooping so low in the front that I was flashing people). I always held onto clothes in the past.

I buy new pants as soon as I fit into the next size down. I've gone from 24W to 14 petite. I get the pants on sale, and get one pair of jeans and one pair of black pants for work. I'm not going to go around hiking my pants up all the time. Shirts can last quite a bit longer if you buy the right ones. I've worked hard for those smaller sizes, so I'm darn well going to wear them all the way baby!!8

Hate clothes shopping. Hate it.
For outside the home, I pretty much live in jeans, and bought a new pair at any point along the way when belting them made them look like the paper-bag-waist style that was in fashion a couple of decades back. I'm 5'5". I started out at 183 in a size 16 women's jeans. (A few years back, I was in a 20, too, but lost a couple of sizes when I got more active, even while staying at about the same weight.) I think I went to a size 12 misses at maybe 160, then 8 around (don't remember) maybe 140, snuck a 6 in there somewhere (130?), and hit 4 at 120ish.
My workout leggings became lightweight sweatpants when I put a drawstring inside the top edge so I could cinch them in. XL T-shirts still work, I just look like a refugee. (I Do. Not. Care.) I bought a few nicer things (pants, shirts, coat, sweaters) for more dressed-up social occasions. I'll work on the rest of the wardrobe gradually (sigh), if I have to, I guess.
Quite a few people buy from consignment/resale shops or things like Goodwill/Salvation Army during weight loss, and only buy new new clothes when they get to goal weight. Frugality pushed me in that direction, but I hate to shop there just as much, so I resisted.2 -
I am currently still shopping in my closet. 26 lbs down and I've gone from a size 20 to a size 18. If past history holds true (and it might not, last time I lost weight was before kids), my next size will be in about another 20-25 lbs.
The smallest size I have in my closet is 14, and not much in that size. So once I'm basically out of plus sized clothes I will need to shop properly.1 -
I love clothes shopping! The first time I lost weight, I hit up consignment shops as I did not plan to fit into those clothes for very long. Finding outfits that fit me nicely was a confidence booster.
When I got to my goal weight I bought brand new clothes and wore those for years. Now that I am doing this again, I like what the above poster said-I'm still shopping in my closet too!0 -
I bought some new underwear and tops when I was down 15-20 lbs. Most of my pants and skirts were stretchy waist so they still fit okay. I fit into some clothes I owned that used to be too tight to wear.0

I wear my denim jeans weekends. This past Saturday morning as I got dressed my 46 jeans fell down when I reached for my belt. And again. And again. I finally managed to hold the jeans with one hand and grab the belt with another and get the belt wrapped around me and the pants held up. Saturday afternoon I went to the local WM and purchased a single pair of 42 jeans. After changing into these, I discovered that the reduced material in the waist was not causing any bunching of fabric and thus exposing the inability of the belt to firmly hold the pants to me. It's not a typical belt. It uses velcro to hold together and my weight loss has exceeded the adjustment range of the belt, so I'll have to order a new one soon. I bought new smaller undershorts a month ago.0

I go at like 5 am to beat the crowd. I hate the crowd. Couple times a week roughly. But I always dress for the occasion. A stylish blazer and an ascot.

This is what goodwill and other second hand stores and great sales are for. No need to wallow in too big clothes.

I have little choice but to regularly get new clothes. I work part-time at a front desk and need to look immaculate. The days I'm in the back on translation work I can show up in jeans and t-shirts and no one lifts an eyebrow.
Thankfully I can ask friends and family if they have anything I can borrow to tie my over so I don't have to spend all that much. I'm currently wearing my cousin's pre-pregnancy clothes and she's using my own old clothes until she fits into her own again. Another cousin's girlfriend already offered her own old clothes from before she lost weight for the next phase. And one of my aunt gave me all her suits and dresses from before she retired. It's not always 100% the style I like, but it's a temporary situation.
As a result, I get a whole new wardrobe everytime I lose a size and only have to spend the gas money needed to drive to where ever said person happens to live.
The only thing I spend money on is jeans. I need to feel comfortable in my jeans and no one seems to have the same body shape.3 -
I went from a size 20 to size 10/12 and managed to get away with wearing clothes a size to big but had to buy new ones once I've lost 2 dress sizes. Went through no end of clothes but never spent a lot on them as if your planning on losing more it's pointless x1

I didn't realise I had shrunk until I went to put on a pair of shorts I hadn't worn in a while. They practically fell off. My busy schedule means the only clothes I really wear are work clothes & pyjamas. While I downsized the work pants - it didn't really sink in, I mean they were a mens cut anyway (womens just don't have enough pockets)!
Suddenly I realised nothing fit anymore! Skinny jeans were baggy, shorts were falling off, high waisted skirts became hip-skirts.
I have gone from an Australian (on average) size 10 to a (on average) size 8... 12kgs in total.
I've decided i'm not going to throw everything out and start again, but instead replace as needed - I needed winter clothes so I've bought some and hopefully won't shrink out of these!!2 -
I'm 50 pounds lighter than I was last October. I wasn't planning to buy new clothes until I'm done with the weight loss, but I can't stand the way I look in my bigger clothing now. They're sooo baggy. I had some old clothes from when I weighed less years ago, but I pulled them out too late and they also look huge and my style has changed some.
I've got some jeans, workout clothes and countless race shirts for outside work. I bought 4 dresses and have one pair of pants that fits. My coworkers are going to be so sick of the sight of the same outfits from now through the end of summer, but I don't want to buy anything else until I have no choice.3 -
After the first 10lbs I dropped a dress size so bought a few things knowing I was only half way to goal. I was lucky that some old clothes that were too small started fitting so they got another outing or three
Then as I approached goal I had so much fun shopping for another size smaller. There is nothing better than buying new clothes in a smaller size especially when having never been that small before1 -
I started at 220lb and I'm now 170lb. I bought 2 pairs of jeans at ~185lb which are now too big (size 32's, I can fit a 30, but 31's are more comfortable unless the fit is perfect in the legs). I also bought maybe 3 shirts at ~182lb. My wife started buying me some more shirts at 170lb and just bought me two pair of shorts.
I still wear all my old shirts, but I don't wear any of my old jeans. I need to toss all of my old sweat pants/shorts but since I only wear them around the house it isn't too bad to just tie them tight.2 -

This. Hate saggy falling down pants. It isn't exactly a big investment since I usually just have 2 pairs of jeans + leggings for the gym. Got by with just one bra for a few months; went with 2 this time because it is hard for me to imagine needing a smaller band size short of surgery...if there is another inch or better there it is a really sneaky spread out inch. And I bought two size small tees this past weekend just because I could...they were on clearance and look absolutely fine...not too short/clingy; and everything in my closet is XL/L.1 -
I generally get a few new things every few months or season. I wear dresses for a long time because they're more forgiving. They don't look as sloppy at work as my pants do once I can fit in the next size down.
A lot of the things I'm buying now are just clearance (like bras), or cheaper stuff from Old Navy, Target, and TJ Maxx. Quality doesn't matter quite so much since I won't be wearing it more than a few months and it will be too big next time the season rolls around.
I have had to buy a few new pairs of shoes though. My feet are smaller (arch seems higher and width is more narrow), and I couldn't get away with wearing some of the really big ones due to blisters.2 -
I go every time stuff is getting too loose on me. Which is usually every couple of months. But I typically shop at thrift stores or consignment shops right now because it's way cheaper than buying stuff from regular stores.0

I recently have been shopping a LOT. For awhile I've been mostly making do with clothes too big and altering what I could.
Now that warmer weather is here I'm splurging. I only bought a couple pairs of capris that I can easily alter. Everything else I'm buying is flowing material very summer stuff that will look good as is for a lot more weight loss.
Right now I'm loving the J Lopez items at kohls. There have been a couple other brands there with similar type but different materials, designs and cuts. I've bought gorgeous tops and dresses that flatter and hide and are styled to hang loose but have shape.
I'm ready to look good even though I still have a ways to go . I've lost over half my goal. For the first time in years I'm being stopped by other women asking where I bought my clothes.1
