Using a food scale and pre-logging have been the most helpful tips I picked up here!

Spend some time looking around these boards; you'll pick up a lot of tips. If you have specific questions, you'll find that folks around here can be very helpful. But your post is a little open-ended, and doesn't show a lot of effort on your part, so it will probably elicit many "in kind" responses.

be honest with yourself.. don't cut corners and understand this is not a sprint, but a 5K, I would say a marathon, but I recommend shorter reachable goals. It takes a lot of 5Ks to get a marathon..

controlling what you eat and how much of it, is the key....
so weigh everything and figure out what works for you.

Get a food scale, find out your TDEE, and enjoy your meals.
If you're not the type to eat nothing but salads and vegetables, then don't force yourself to eat only that.
You'll fail and you'll end up right back where you started.

If you get a scale and find out your daily TDEE though, you can eat whatever you want
as long as you stay within your goals.
