Could trouble losing weight be due to PCOS?

I'm about seventy pounds overweight, so I do have a lot to lose. I also suffer from acne, irregular menstrual cycles, and excessive body hair. I had gotten an ultrasound on my ovaries two years ago and the doctor said I had cysts on both of them but That I didn't have PCOS and that my hormone levels were fine? Should I go back and get tests done again? (Also, my sister has PCOS and diabetes runs in both sides of the family)

Honestly, its about having a healthy lifestyle, I have PCOS and what works for me doens't work for someone else with it so it's all about finding a balance of what all is going to work for you0

I was told before that the two illnesses go hand in hand .. If you have diabetes.. you will eventually end up with PCOS.. and vise versa... however I did have PCOS first.. which gives you the inability to break-down cortisol, and you tend to be insulin resistant.. causing you to gain weight.. Diabetes which I have only had for about 10 years... diabetes can make loosing weight horrendous especially after having a baby... or two...or three... with both of these illnesses myself .. I have found that the only thing that gives me quick results is changing my diet completely (to HIGH protein) and lots and lots of cardio. For me the problem has always been keeping it off.. I can never commit to the lifestyle change.
I always revert back to my bad eating habits and get lazy.. then being a diabetic gets kicked into full gear and it's pretty much over from there.0 -
What have you done to reduce your risk? How careful are you about what you eat (quantity and quality, since you mention diabetes), how pjysically active are you, how long have you been trying to restrict calories?0

If you think you may have PCOS, go and get checked out again. For the time being, if you think you are/might be PCOS I know a lot of women with it that do better on a lower carb diet so you could start with that. Think 100g of carbs a day - preferably from slow digesting sources (brown rice, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, etc) and then increase your healthy fats to hit calories.0

I'm in a bad mood today so you get the brutally frank answer from me .... PCOS has always been around but it wasn't named that. When women with cystic ovararies or hormon imbalances got heavier it was more due to them eating too much candy bon-bons and laying around than it was because of defective physiology (sp) ... and when we got acne we were told to lay off so much sweet and fatty food. When we couldn't conceive children or constantly miscarried them in the first trimester we thought it was just a skipped period and that we were cranky feeling. The best remedy was a good romp in the hay with our husband/lover and to scrub the cupboards and house till it sparkled, even if we worked an outside job on top of it. .... so today I say forget blaming something you've read about as the culprit for your unhappy state of figure and skin. Clean up you diet and you act. See how that works.1
