That's a sad amount of pasta for the calories...
I used this recipe (scaled down) and it was just as satisfying (and I used pancetta too).

Doesn't look shocking! Besides, some people prefer their main meal to be dinner. So why not?
We usually cook 180 grams of dry pasta and I eat about 2/5 to half of it. Our pastas are usually around 550-650kcal as well. Unless we cook pasta alla grecia, which usually is a bit higher. It's a good amount of food for a dinner (we usually have two helpings each) and it's very tasty.1 -
Laughing at the fact that a yummy recipe was posted and some users are actually calling her out and telling her why her recipe isn't what she said it was.
OP: I think it sounds delicious. Calorie-wise I don't see it as being shocking and as far as the serving: one would be surprised at how filling a serving of pasta is when you add some bulk to it.4 -

Oh yeah I can easily have a 600 calorie pasta dish, no problem, but the main calories come from the pasta, not all the toppings... this has 60 sad grams of pasta!0 -

Agreed. I'd probably add some vegetables -- since it's not traditional carbonara anyway, why not? But that's definitely my experience -- 60 g or less of pasta with a filling sauce is really filling for me. Usually with fewer than 650 calories, but for carbonara 650 is totally reasonable.1 -

And? As long as is filling why does the majority of the meal need to be pasta? Hell, I had an "Italian stew" for lunch that's essentially pasta sauce with tons of veggies and meat.
No pasta at all. Gonna die.2 -
I made up this version with a lot of trail and error, get this is a restaurant and it would be atleast triple the calories! Its my way of still enjoying a meal that I love and making it fit into my calories for the day!3

I am so confused with everyone's disgust at 60g of pasta. That's a typical serving size. When I make pasta, I make it with lots of meaty sauce and veggies. It's incredibly filling and I normally can't eat the whole serving (neither can my boyfriend!) I never feel any shortage of pasta.2

the meat can differ by region and whats available. Usually just any cured pig. My grandmother (who lives there) makes it with no meat.0 -

We weren't all disgusted! (I agree with you.)1 -

Smart approach. I like doing that too -- taking something high cal and seeing if I can recreate what I really love about it without so many calories.3 -

Erm I know this.... but this particular Creme Fraiche is 80kcal per 100ml where as standard double cream is 350kcal per 100ml, and the taste isnt much different when mixed with the other ingredients. No brainer for me!
And if this whole meal is "really high in calories" then well you crack on and starve eating dust then haha1 -

Not disgusted. I'd just trade 80g of pancetta for 23g of pasta without a second thought. If I have pasta as a main dish, I just need more than 60g to be satisfied. If I'm not going to be able to taste the pasta because of all the toppings, I'd just have zucchini or spaghetti squash to save calories, lol.
But to each their own.0
