Losing weight

Hello I am new to this and I need advice. I am 21 and want to lose 20 pounds. I weigh 146. I have been dieting for 34 days now. I eat 1200 calories a day. I try not to eat dark meats, only turkey, chicken, and fish. I quit drinking soda, and eat more veggies and fruits. More protein. I dont excercize much but I am not super lazy. I also recently just started walking a mile and a half a day. But I haven't felt like I lost any weight? I dont have a scale to see If I have ..but I really don't feel like I have. I thought I would've felt a little skinnier at least. Maybe its too soon to tell? Any advice would be appreciated!

Don't look at the scale. Use a tape measurer or get a body fat percentage measurer. I've been 135 and a size four and 135 and a size 10.
You probably also should get your heart rate up higher than walking. Are there any other workouts you enjoy doing? If you don't exercise much maybe try a class or group setting. I love doing boot camps in the park, boxing, yoga and cycling outdoors. But every person is different. So let me ask you this, why walking? Would you consider something else? Is money an issue? Do you have any injuries or restrictions? Anything you HATE doing?1 -
Welcome Are you counting calories? (and weighing foods to be sure?) You can overeat even if it's all veggies... walking IS exercise!
Even if you don't have a scale, you should be able to feel if your clothing are getting looser. Smaller people tend to lose weight slower (Because there's less to lose!) How tall are you?? 146 doesn't sound like your too too big to me (how tall are you??)
Try filling out your information here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided and MFP can help lead you in the right direction!1 -
I will start measuring my waist but I believe its the same since my jeans feel like they fit the same. I love climbing the rocks at the mountains and do it with my boyfriend and dog on the weekends. I also like going to the creek or just finding new places and going on adventures. But I would rather just do excersize at home then spend money on a gym or class. I will try boosting up my pace to a jog too. I also like doing sit ups and crunches but barely do them. I just am starting out so I'm hoping to work myself up to working out more since I don't have much motivation.0

Wolfena, I am only 5 ft. I am not fat but a little thick. I just recently gained this weight due to just sitting at home and I quit smoking cigarettes 3 months ago. I want to be 125 because thats what I feel good at. I dont want to look super skinny. But yes, I count all calories and write everything down. I have one cheat day a week but never go past my maintenance calories.0

If you don't have a scale then it's going to be hard to tell. For me, personally, I have to go up or down in weight by about 20 pounds before I see it in the mirror or my clothes start to get noticeably looser. That amount of change takes me 3-4 months before I notice.1 -

Healthy is important... congrats on quitting smoking! Good things take time, just keep up the good work and eventually things will fall into place

Dianne, I really need to invest in a good scale then! Lol thank you! I also need to start measuring too. But do you think I should be able to lose weight with what I am doing? I feel like I should.0

I would say that you might need to up your workout a little more like a brisk walk and maybe add an ab or squat workout. It's amazing what a squat exercises without weights can do for you. If you like you can add me to you friends list. What is you macros set at? You should try 50p/30c/20f. FYI you can find steak that is as lean as most chicken and turkey. I was shocked to see that not all ground turkey is was as healthy as they claimed. Just FYI.0
