Water weight question

So on here the general consensus seems to be that when you first start, you wont lose fat, but water weight. I personally am drinking wayy more water/fluids than i did before, so if anything wouldn't i be gaining water weight? Furthermore, eating at a caloric deficit reduces fat, so why is the first few pounds not fat if thats the amount that matches up with your deficit? Im a little confused haha.

Drinking more water doesn't cause you to gain water weight because your body processes the water and expels it.
Eating at a calorie deficit will reduce fat, but it takes a while. In order to lose 5 lbs, you need to create a deficit of 17,500 calories, which takes time.0 -
I'm going to try to answer, although I am not rock solid on all the specifics. You lose water weight when you drink more water because your sodium levels go down so there is basically nothing holding the water weight. I know it is counterintuitive...
Generally, when people start mpf, their sodium goes down, either because they are paying more attention or just because they are consuming less of everything.
I will say it was great the first week when I was losing water weight. I felt much better, more energy, and my measurements went down super-fast. It definitely helped to keep me motivated.3 -
