How long after mixing the Whey Protein (in water) should it be consumed (being refrigerated)?

Hey all,
I'm entirely new to the methods and techniques of consuming Whey Protein Drinks and I'm just about to start drinking, for the first time ever, for the purpose of aiding my goal of fat-loss, and building lean mass. I've been told by me fitness advisor to consume the drink immediately after the workout, say in 5 mins. And I won't get home after atleast 20 mins post workout.
I can mix the drink at home, have it taken to the gym and let it refrigerate in the fridge, so that after the workout, I can consume it right away. But I'm not sure if it's supposed to be consumed that way. Certain blogs suggest that the Protein Drinks are best had fresh (that the potency of the drink diminishes with time).
Are there any issues at all, if I pre mix the Drink at home, have it kept refrigerated for a hour and a half (usually that's how long my workout lasts) and consume it cold after workout?

Plus, my present workout regimen follows a cardio-strength training-cardio cycle. How can I modify the workout plan (being told that the Protein Drink is to consumed after the strength training session, and cardio after that is pointless) so as to help me get to my fat-loss goals.

Thank you,

Arshad Ahamed.

P.S - Forgive me for being not much knowledgeable in this area, since I'm a beginner, working hard to become a healthier self.

  • It doesn't matter if you refrigerate it, the nutrients won't just disappear, but if you're worried about it, what I do is leave the protein powder dry in my shaker cup, then add water too it from my water bottle or from the water fountain just before I drink it. If you're doing strength training and then cardio immediately after, consume the protein shake once you've finished the cardio, it's not pointless, as you're still using muscles and burning fat. But if you want (and can stomach doing cardio not on an empty stomach), drink half the shake when you finish the strength training, then drink the other half after the cardio

I second the recommendation above. It's not about potency, it's just that protein powder can get a nasty smell and aftertaste when not freshly made.

If you drink the shake after a longer period than 5 minutes, you will still survive. Don't get caught up in the smaller things. While nutrition timing can be important on some levels, worry about the bigger things first.
