I've bought it several times from publix and my aunt makes it too. Everytime I drink it, it makes me gag and shudder. People say its super tasty and sweet but I dont find that at all. I've heard there are great benefits, but is it really worth it to drink? It tastes so nasty to me I've named it the Devil's piss. Why is it so good and what does it do for you?

I don't think anything is worth drinking if it makes you gag and shudder (unless it's a medicine that is going to literally cure an illness or something).

If you don't like it, why drink it?

I'd never heard of this so I looked it up. It sure doesn't sound like something I'd try to force myself to like.

...Proponents claim kombucha tea can stimulate the immune system, prevent cancer, and improve digestion and liver function. However, there's no scientific evidence to support these health claims.

There have, however, been reports of adverse effects, such as stomach upset, infections and allergic reactions in kombucha tea drinkers. Kombucha tea is often brewed in homes under nonsterile conditions, making contamination likely. If ceramic pots are used for brewing, lead poisoning might be a concern — the acids in the tea may leach lead from the ceramic glaze.

In short, there isn't good evidence that kombucha tea delivers on its health claims. At the same time, several cases of harm have been reported. Therefore, the prudent approach is to avoid kombucha tea until more definitive information is available.

I brew it myself, and I like the flavor. It's kind of sour and fizzy, like beer or unsweetened apple cider. If you only like sweet stuff then you won't like kombucha. It has about 30 calories for 8 ounces which isn't bad. I don't know about all the health claims, but it has probiotics that help with digestion . I'm less gassy if I have a glass every day.
