How do I get the butt of my dreams?

What kind of work outs are most effective and at what weights and reps and sets? I use the adductor machine at the gym and the leg press and have seen results, but I hear machines are nowhere near as effective as free weights. I'm a total newbie when it comes to weight training!
Any tips for a beginner?

define "butt of your dreams" so we can determine if this dream is realistic to do with exercise.3

don't make assumptions.
I train girls every day who think they can get a:
Jen Selter
Kim K
Nikki Minaj
Paige Hathaway
etc.
Butt by "squats".1 -

if you're getting results, keep doing what you're doing. i got awesome results using the leg press machine myself.0 -
Some girls just can't get the round butts they desire even with exercise. Genetics will always trump exercise when it comes to one's actual shape. Since many females follow the genetics of their mothers, does your mom's shape dictate a butt shape you want?

True. But hopefully you may get grandmas butt! Lol. I think you can always improve on your shape. It can have a more lifted appearance from exercise. Good luck.1 -
I've been trying to figure out to get a bigger rounder butt
I tried upping my calories, I tried squats for a little while but I realized it'll just make my *kitten* firmer which isn't what I desire
I'm saggy and flat down there, I need help0 -

Well that's part of your problem. A little while doesn't cut it when you're building a physique.1 -
^I was saggy and flat there after my weight loss...it looked like my butt just kind of fell down. I've been doing squats, deadlifts, all kinds of lunges, then added glute bridges and hip thrusts. It is now looking rounder, firmer, and filling out my jeans better.1

Yep, I've been working at it for four/five months and only just starting so see noticeable changes!
Squats, deadlifts (barbell and single leg) lunges and glute bridges/hip thrusts for me too.0 -

One can always improve on their shape, but one also has to have realistic expectations. If you have a skinny, flat butt, you can make it into the most taut, muscular, spectacular skinny flat butt anybody has ever seen - you can even make it less skinny and less flat. But you're not going to make it into a big ol' rounded J-Lo booty if you don't have big ol' rounded J-Lo booty genetics.2 -
You want a fat *kitten*? Sit on it and eat a lot.
If you want a lifted and more rounded *kitten* do the work as suggested.1 -
I used to not have one at all, I just had one long back.
After starting squats, lunges and deads.
My wife confessed recently she wished hers looked as good as mine.

This thread is making my laugh. I have a big butt, and so do the women in my family, I guess it's the one thing we were blessed with. I have always done squats, lunges, etc, so that has helped. I also have the big ole thunder thighs to match, which I could do without, but once again that is genetic. I just want to be the best version of myself, so that is my goal. Saying that, I am having knee replacement surgery on June 13th, so I won't be able to do anything leg or butt related for months. I am scared my big butt will turn in to a saggy butt by then lol. You better believe I am hitting it as hard as possible in the gym right now, on leg day.1

Check out Strong Curves by Brett C, as suggested by the first 2 posts. Glute bridges and hip thrusts will work your glutes the most. Squats are good too, but they primarily work your thighs, with glutes being a secondary muscle group worked. They are important, but not a be-all, end-all butt grower (as MANY people will attempt to make you believe)
As someone who has not lifted consistently in the past, I have completed week 8 of the Strong Curves beginner program, and have already seen changes in my body. My husband has even made comments. My butt is rounder & more perky. Although my weight hasn't changed much, my waist has also gotten smaller (according to measurements), which makes my butt look even better in comparison. I can already tell that my body is going from looking "fluffy" to getting muscle definition.1 -

I have always had a big butt, but it turned into a big, saggy butt. I am getting rid of the sag, but that takes time, squats, lunges, classes and cardio. Do the time, get the butt you were meant to have...
My ortho told me that I will probably have a knee replacement in my future, so you know I am working it know.

^^^^----This! Nothing beats a glute bridge and hip thrusts for building a round booty. Use some serious weight and you'll see results (put a barbell with some serious weight on your hips and squeeze for a second at the top). From my experience, lunges, squats (all types) and deadlifts will give you more of a lifted rear while glute bridges and hip thrusts focus specifically and directly on the glute muscles. Eat enough protein and calories and it will work. Genetics do play a role though. Some peoples bodies just refuse to grow a booty. Anyone can get a big round booty, it will just take more time and effort for some than it does for others.
