Lost 24lbs still in same jeans?

I have lost 24lbs and believe me I am extatic about that but I am still not able to go down a size in jeans :( my jeans are loose but not enough to go down a size. I still have a long way to go to my goal weight but I'm getting a little discouraged. .. any 1 else going thru this?

Fat doesn't come off equally everywhere, I've noticed that myself after losing 20 lbs. I have lost little bit from hips and butt but everything else keeps shrinking so fast, mostly my upper body and thighs. It really is more stuck to my hips and lower tummy but it will come off for sure! :D

Jean sizes are an arbitrary yardstick to measure progress. If your clothes are feeling looser, or perhaps you start needing a belt, then that's still progress.

The fat weight comes off from everywhere - not just your waist, but your legs, your arms, your back, and your face. 24lbs is a significant amount of weight, so well done!

However, be careful not to attribute too much importance on a single aspect. As an extreme example, some people get hung up on getting washboard abs and think they're not making progress, all the while they completely neglect the fact they are building great backs and arms.

Enjoy the progress you have made and use that to motivate you to continue make consistent progress towards your end goal.

29 pounds here and I have a pair of jeans that are way too big and another brand - same size - that still for fine. It is very frustrating.

Things fit differently but not loose enough to go down a size.

I hate shopping anyway, always have, even when I was at a healthy weight, so this whole journey is going to lead to dressing rooms that I don't want to enter. LOL

I'm a guy and I've had the same problem - not only in jeans but also in my dress slacks....they're looser, yes, but not "oops, gotta go out and buy the next size down" yet; and I've lost a little over 23 pounds at this point.

But from the fit of my clothes, I can tell I've definitely lost mass in other areas - arms, back, shoulders, legs...which tells me that my waist is probably going to be the last place I slim down (as my doctor predicted). Oh well.

I lost 70 pounds from highest to very lean and only dropped one jean size. Most of my fat was carried in my stomach area, so I just didn't have much to lose for legs and hips.

I had to lose 40ish pounds before being able to get into a smaller size. Mostly because I hold my weight on my butt and thighs, so I always had to have jeans that fit those 2 places rather than my waist.

It's frustrating, but if you can stand taking the time, try one several different brands of jeans. The cuts are all different.

My upper half starting losing the fat the quickest. Tummy for seems to take the longest and I still struggle with it. I'm in a size 4 jeans but can still wear my size 8 jeans!! They are a little loose in the waist and a little baggy in the hips but I can still wear them out. Just go with the flow. When they start feeling uncomfortable, like you may accidentally flash someone, then it's time to go shopping

You might want to take measurements and re-check monthly. It is encouraging to see the overall picture!

I have lost 23lb so far and still in the same jeans. You said your jeans feel loose, so that is progress! Feel proud of yourself for losing your weight and your clothes getting looser because that's awesome!

at 34 lbs lost I am just moving into next size down. Especially in jeans with stretch. When I can slip them off with out undoing it is time to retire them.
Keep on losing and it will happen!

Oh and the larger the size the more you need to lose to move down.

Go shopping and try on a size or two smaller, you may not NEED a smaller size but I bet they look better.

242 peak, prostate surgery and down to 206, stayed there for over 10 years. Started Move! in VA in Aug '15 and have been stable at 183 to 186. Very frustrating however have changed jeans from 42 to 36. Goal is 175, ideal for age, gender... Pretty much same regimen of eating and exercise as when losing so why stabilized for over 6 months now? (when I cut calories, even 100-200 or so I feel very enervated and generally "bleah".) Dietician I very much respect, tells me to not cut any more because of potential liver damage, plus other problems -- basically to stick with what I am doing -- frustrating but am upping exercise a little -- can 'pinch' a 4" roll -- want to knock off those abdomen fat rolls -- . I share your frustration, how long does it take to get rid of these rolls?

I have also noticed that the larger the size the bigger the weight range to drop.... I had to lose 25 pounds to drop from a 14 to a 12, but then over the next 20 pounds dropped 2 more sizes to an 8.

I've lost 25 lbs. I'm still wearing the same pants. Pounds lost doesn't indicate where you lost inches.
My pants fit better now. I can zip up and wear some normal jeans that I could not wear 25 lbs ago.

I thought so too then went to the store and I had actually lost two sizes. My jeans were just much tighter than I remembered when I started AND had loosened/got wider in time.. so I wasn't really a 18 but probably a 20. Went to the store and 14s fit (although a bit tight).

That bold part I think is what happens. We think we're one size, but in reality we were squishing ourselves into one size too small. So we start to lose weight and our pants finally stop feeling tight... and without realizing it, we technically went down a pant size (since we were wearing a size too small to begin with). We just gotta be patient and continue losing more weight to get to our next smaller size!! :)

In to third this response. I, like many, was resistant to going up a clothing size. I would rather be uncomfortable in a size 20 than buy a size 22. I've lost 27 lbs since fall (16 in the past 8 weeks). I've just started getting rid of my size 20 stuff. Before kids I was a 16 at 218 lbs but I'm shaped differently now so I think it will take longer.

My experience was similar to what others report. In the larger sizes, it could easily take a 25+ pound loss to go down a size. In smaller sizes, a 7 pound weight loss can result in a size decrease.

Keep doing what you're doing - you are making progress toward your goal and as long as you continue making that progress, you will reach it!

It takes awhile to go down a size, especially when we are bigger. When I weighed 220 some odd years ago, I recall it seemed to take 30 pounds for me to go down a blouse size, but what I neglected to acknowledge was that I had lost weight other places and lost a pants size or so. Everybody loses weight differently, and in different places. Know that you will reach your goals if you continue forward!

Yep- if you have more to lose, it's going to take more weight lost to go down a size. I probably lost about 40-45 lbs before I could comfortably go down a jean size, though my biggest size jeans were probably a little to small for me at my highest weight.

I didn't have to replace any size 20 clothes until 40 lbs lost.

However, size 16-10 was also 40 lbs. It's because girth is nonlinear with mass.

Do you know whether the pounds you've lost are muscle or fat? (you would need to have kept track of your body composition). Muscle is much smaller and more compact than fat- so if the weight lost was muscle, you would not be losing as many inches. It's important to eat VERY HIGH PROTEIN while losing weight to avoid muscle loss as much as possible.

Then again, it may just be that the fat has come off of other places.

    Congrats on your progress!

I'd say it depends on the jeans. If they are low riding leans with some stretch, then I would say that isn't unusual. If they have no spandex and fit at the waist, then I would say that is not the norm.

I have one pair of pants that were TIGHT 40 lbs ago. They had a lot of stretch and sat low on my hips so I could get away with wearing them - they caused a pretty spectacular muffin top though. I can still wear them today but the legs are no longer skin tight and I don't bother with the zipper and button anymore - a belt is a must.

Other jeans I had to get rid of but these are still a good enough fit. I think they are a 14 and I now wear a 8/10.

It's all going to depend on where you carry your weight also. Mine is in my thighs, hips and butt. My hips and butt is what prevents me from going down a pant size. I started at 240 size 18 and now I'm in a size 9-10 at 166 lbs. My face was one of the first noticeable places when I first started losing weight. I think I had lost 20-25 lbs before I could fit into a size 16.

I lost 30lb (starting at 169lb, 5'7, and current 139 so quite a lot for my size) and at 150 I felt like I was exactly the same size. All my clothes fit the same, no size changes. Then between 150 and 140 I suddenly dropped 1 1/2 jeans sizes!! In the higher weight though, I lost it all from my feet, hands/fingers/wrists, and chest. When I moved my arms, I could see my rib bones above my breasts before my legs changed a size at all! (Now I am working on adding pecs LOL) Moral of the story: your body will choose where it loses fat and it will all come eventually.... :)
side note: as others have mentioned make sure you're trying to emphasize loosing FAT not muscle. I made that mistake with too low of a deficit and no weight-lifting and now I need to recomp and lost a lot of muscle! It'll make your SCALE progress look slower but your body so much healthier and ideal faster!
