Does anyone else swim??

I don't see any swimming threads. I started swimming laps about a month ago. Twice a week (that's the only evening swims available) I swim laps for an hour and already have seen lots of progress!! I love it so much, it's more than just exercise for me, it's stress relieving and mind clearing. Not to mention I've lost 11.5 lbs since I started.

I've read so many conflicting opinions about whether swimming is good for weight loss or not. Something about cold water stunting fat loss? And no residual metabolic benefit? Also, being extra hungry afterwards. But I plan my calories so I can eat after swimming and still be within my caloric goal.

I guess I'm worried that those articles might be right, and I'm inhibiting my weight loss. My mind says that any physical activity is good, but those stupid articles nag at me.

Has anyone successfully lost weight long term using swimming as their main exercise? Do you just swim laps or do you go in with a workout plan?

    Swimming? What is this "swimming" of which you speak? I don't think I've ever heard of it before just now

    @spring913

    Swimming is awesome for getting fit! There's a swimmers group in the group section someplace.. I'll hunt around and see if I can find it.. I don't think the search feature works anymore so I'll Google it. :D

    I don't know anything about the articles you're reading but have read plenty on how great swimming is as a full body workout. My whole body is wiped out after a couple hours in the pool. But a good fatigued, know what I mean? You can burn 700+ cals in an hour+ swimming.

    Holy Cow!! They fixed the search feature on the groups! That's fantastic @Nova

    Here's a great group, I just rejoined it myself... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/114043-fitness-swimming You'll get some super input there and get any questions answered.

    Enjoy, the group and the water! ;)

    EDIT: Oh guess I never responded to your actual question lol I've been doing lots of kick-boarding on my back using my arms as well so my whole body is engaged. I can absolutely tell the inches are dropping, it's crazy how fast, movement in the water is changing the shape of my body. I just can't get over it!

    I say toss the articles and keep swimming Dora! :D

    Stop reading those articles?
    See the bold.

    The exercise that matters is the one you do because you enjoy it.
