Cracking knees?

I noticed when I was doing squats months ago that one of my knees would pop. I had quit for a few months for unrelated reasons, but getting back into a routine, I now notice that both knees pop. It's not painful. Is this because of improper form? Does it go away eventually?

supposedly cracking and popping without pain is ok. But if its a bad pop, you gotta use your judgement. My knees crackle and make sounds until they are warmed up, and i wear tight knee sleeves to keep them warm and cozy and then they are fine.1

Joint popping is usually harmless cavitations. If you experience pain or otherwise suspect issues with your kneecap (you can feel it moving out of place), then get it checked out.1

No pain, no problem. Popping is usually caused by ligaments or tendons shifting around (or so my chiropractor tells me). Maybe film yourself or have someone watch you to make sure you have correct form just to double check? Otherwise, you're probably fine.1
