edited May 2016 in Health and Weight Loss
When I began in November I weighed 244 and was fairly sedentary. My daily calorie goal was set at 1200.

Since then I have begun to follow a healthier diet and work out 3-4 times a week in a very strenuous 45 minute class that combines lots of cardio and strength. I have also increased my activity level at work (I work at an animal shelter doing training and behavior) and also try walking for 20 minutes on my lunch at a moderate pace.

I have dropped to 197 pounds in 6 months and feel much better. Since I have made so many lifestyle changes, should I go in and edit my activity level to moderate or just leave it as is? Using the new figures changes my intake goal to 1295 to lose 1-1/2 pounds a week.

Just lookiing to stay on track.

    i would change my activity level and even goals with every 10 or 20 lbs lost. your BMR changes when you lose weight, so your necessities will change, esp when you increase activity.

    your activity level should not include exercise only regular life activities like work.

    Per this article
    1) <5000 steps.d (sedentary);
    2) 5000-7499 steps.d (low active);
    3) 7500-9999 steps.d (somewhat active);
    4) > or =10,000-12,499 steps.d (active); and
    5) > or =12,500 steps.d (highly active)

    For your calorie goal to be honest it should have never been at 1200...but I suspect you don't use a food scale so...it's all good.

    If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal

    is what a lot of people follow for weight loss.
