I had my hip replaced and have only been doing my therapy walking and exercises. I find I am sweating heavily, and it is a lot of work since rehabbing and physical therapy post surgery is just hard work. But am I burning more calories or is it just the same as usual? I am not counting these as exercise since it feels so nominal and sporadic, but throughout the day I must be logging quite a bit of burn since I feel it. But maybe not.......

    More than one thing.
For sure, the body needs/uses more calories to heal after an operation.

There seems to be no way to calculate it.

If you've had surgery you should eat at maintenance so your body can heal itself.

Yes people generally would burn more after surgery because the body is having to do a lot of recovery work to repair everything. Also did you perhaps have to rest for a little after the operstion you may have lost some fitness and that could explain why smaller things feel tougher.

Thanks for your comments!!! I was walking on it that same afternoon. Little tougher when the anesthesia wore off, but I have been able to stay up on it, as recommended by the doc and hospital staff. They say if you can, then do all you can (for anterior hip replacement. I have not worried about losing weight, but not eating stupid either. Trying to "feed to beast" so it can keep healing on its current track. I graph my progress (on a real pencil, ruler and graph paper) and it is pretty crazy to see a spike up of 10#'s in one day (lot's of water for healing, lot's of swelling). It might take several weeks for the swelling and trauma to subside. So far so good though.
