Vegas vacation

I'm sure this has been asked prior, but I'm wondering what you guys do when you go out of town. My husband and I planned a week long trip to Vegas for our 5 year anniversary a while ago. Since then I have started working out regularly and tracking all I eat. I wanted to know what you all do on vacation and how I just don't backslide but still enjoy it. We waited a while for this and paid a decent amount for everything I really want to have my cake and eat it too.

Get lots of walking in, research menus before you go out to eat, maybe go to a store and buy some food you can keep in your hotel room so that you're not eating out for every meal.0

You can do a heck of a lot of walking in Vegas. That will offset some of the calories. Keep it to one buffet - try and limit the drinks. Enjoy.0

When I go to Vegas all food worries stay at home. NO logging, no tracking, eat-aal-the-desserts-and-no-worries. There is so much amazing food and drink in Vegas. It's your anniversary, enjoy. There is so much walking in Vegas that I never gain weight that sticks around for more than a couple days after I get back.
mmm Wynn buffet. mmm Steakhouse. mmm...BRB booking trip to Vegas.1 -
FIRST OFF - I AM SUPER JEALOUS!!!! we go all the time, and haven't had a chance this year (yet) since hubby had a pay-cut at work. anyway, i have a ton of suggestions!
first, take advantage of the gym located in your hotel. you are typically charged a "resort fee" no matter where you stay, and that will cover the gym fees.
next, use buffets to your advantage. there are TONS Of healthy options of buffets, you just have to know where to look. avoid cereal, breads, donuts, pastries at breakfast, and instead opt for the omelette bar and fruit. skip lunch, and eat a late (big) breakfast, then dinner, so now you've cut-out one meal completely. (best buffets: BELLAGIO, PLANET HOLLYWOOD (SPICE MARKET), COSMOPOLITAN (WICKED SPOON) OR CAESAR'S PALACE (BUCCHANAL). wicked spoon is by far the best)
third, don't drink beer or margaritas. those are lots of sugary extra calories. ask for vodka with diet cranberry and a twist of lime. you'll save tons of calories that way.
next - remember you are on vacation. if you really want that cake at the end of the meal, take it. yes salads and seafood (unbreaded) are the best choices, but dessert kind of "makes" the vacation in my opinion.
fifth - do NOT rent a car. walk as much as you can or take a taxi if it rains (rare) or if you are going across to the Rio or downtown. walking burns tons of calories and there are stairs everywhere in vegas. don't use the elevators or the escalators; actually hike up those stairs!!!
sixth - ABC stores are located in several easy locations, as are walgreens & CVS. buy bottled water and keep it in your room - that way you can carry it around with you all day and not pay an arm and a leg for water inside the casinos.
if you P.M. me, i can send you a TON of information on where to go and what to do.5 -
If you don't feel like completely letting go and taking a break, you could always set yourself a daily or week-long limit.
I guess you could treat it like a gambling limit. Something to keep you from going out of control (and having to pay later!), but still higher than you might spend at home. Set yourself a guideline calorie max that's around maintenance or whatever you want and be aware of it. Most places would probably have calories listed on their website, or just approximate. Drink a glass of water with each alcoholic drink and make sure you're full if you are going to drink a lot. Otherwise you might eat more than you planned. Eat veggies to fill up first at buffets, and go indulge afterwards with smaller portions of whatever you want. And lots of walking!
Have a wonderful vacation. I'm actually a bit jealous. My husband is absolutely against gambling of any form (family issues) and will not even entertain the notion of going, even if we didn't partake in Casinoland. And while I don't really care for it either, I'd still like to go to Vegas sometime to see what else it offers. It's a common stopover on a Southwest flight to the West Coast, so I've seen the airport a dozen times, but that's about it!0 -

there is SO MUCH to do in vegas, without gambling or drinking. i take my daughter all the time (she is 7) and i don't drink or gamble when the two of us go. tons of site-seeing and other fun activities. hopefully you can convince your hubby to go!

Okay, so my take:
I went on an 8 day trip a few months ago for my honeymoon. It was an all-inclusive, and I decided I was gonna just do it up right. And I did--I ate and drank everything, dessert every night, jalapeno poppers by the pool, super sedentary.
I get back and I had gained *foreboding music* 8 pounds. Except 4 days later it turned out I was only up 2 pounds from my weight before I left. 2 pounds. From 8 days of non-stop debauchery and very little walking. And i really truly enjoyed my honeymoon.
This isn't like work travel. I doubt this is something you do often. If I were you, i would just let it go and get back to it when you get back.
Whatever makes you comfortable, i just wanted to share what happened to me when i just let it go.3 -
Thank you all. I'm just a little worried about back sliding but this isn't a trip we take often. We went once for my birthday and now we are going back. I'll make sure we take out running shoes and plan things out a little.
@Rogstar yes there is a ton to do beside gambling and drinking. We went when we were little and my parents had my older sister watch us while they gambled at night. You may do that with your husband if you want to experience Vegas gambling. Otherwise see the shows and the sites.0 -
I lost a ton of weight visiting vegas.
All that walking !!!
Don't fall for the pushy sales people at cheaper hotels hounding you for free shows. (timeshare sales).
Don't even look at them. They are foreign and can be pushy.1
