Mexicannnnnn

Meeting girlfriends for a night of Mexican food and baby shower planning tonight. The restaurant is a local non chain, and no nutritional I formation, and I want to play it safe. I looked up a few generic "mexican restaurants" entries on here. Thought the chicken soup would be a safer bet but the entries I saw were loaded with pesky calories.

What do yall order? My former go to sleep were always covered in cheese and sour cream. Looking for new ideas! Thanks! Andddddd go!

So if I want to splurge I don't just "get whatever I want". I try to be mindful. Maybe I'll get a steak, hold the rice, but allow myself a good deal of sour cream and tortilla chips. Or if I get a burrito, I try not to touch the tortilla chips (doesn't happen ever). It's a little give and take.

If I actually want to stick to my calories for the day-ceviche. Period. It's delicious and not very calorie dense.

Fajitas, or a steak, or a fish entree are my gotos.

My go-to is taco salad with no dressing (salsa is plenty for me). Often around 800-900 calories though! If I have less to spare, I'd eat 2 tacos with veggies on the side. Or avoid the shell on the salad, no guac and sour cream, and light on the cheese.

I'm trying to be mindful, and don't want to make a big deal, because we're celebrating my best friends pregnancy and how she's gonna find out the gender soon. I'm not gonna be "that girl" that brings the scale, or demands to know what oil the fajitas are cooked in.

I can't imagine not having the chips. That's like a crime! Lol. Salsa with tons of cilantro Teo, and sour cream is my favorite.

I just looked up the ceviche dish you mentioned. Sadly, I'm not big on a ton of seafood, but now you have me thinking about grilled fish tacos!

Only MFP'ERS will be looking up dinner plans before they've even finished their morning coffee lol. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, fajitas definitely crossed my mind, without all the tortillas that come with it. Possibly even requesting they dry grill them, so there's less grease. I do wish I liked seafood more than I do. I'll have to try a few new dishes to find some I like--when the boyfriend takes me out and pays, so I don't waste my money if I dislike. ;) lol

Oh yeah, loving fish has been super beneficial for me when going out to dinner. I get excited to order a whole fish and glass of wine. The fats make me feel amazing and I don't feel deprived.

But yeah, fish tacos could be a good option. The salads usually end up being as many calories as a couple tacos.

If you want to go heavy on the tortilla chips you could always get a super simple side salad and add salsa and some guacamole to it and go at it on the chips.

You could order fajitas, no tortilla..and a side salad and mix it all together. I do stuff like that now. I used to feel like I was being a pain but I just don't care anymore.

Lol, I've gotten some looks at fast food chains, ordering burgers with no bun, and once a big mac with no meat.

I once got a taco salad from taco bell, and asked for no meat, extra beans. Get to the window and she's grinning all big and says "since you didn't want meat, I put chicken on it, no extra charge" this wasn't during a weight loss journey, but during a time I disliked meat. Soooo, IDGAF if they think I'm annoying, either.

WTF is up with the taco bell lady? What does that even mean??!!

The other weekend is when I made my first order like that. I ordered this southwestern chicken sandwich with no bread/roll..and then made them bring me a side salad, twice (so I could get enough lettuce). I got all the yummy meat, cheese and sour cream I wanted but without the bread calories. I will be doing this forever now ha

I have no clue what was up with her. Maybe she thought I was a "no red meat" vegetarian? All I know is she isn't one that deserves $15/hr.

Hardees actually has a low carb menu. Tell them to low carb your burger, and it comes wrapped in lettuce. If only I liked Hardee's...lol.

I love the fact I can get an approximate calorie count at chains since they have nutritional information available. When I dont have time to prepare/forgot my food on the counter, it's great to know I could get a simple egg wrap from dunkin donuts, or a salad from subway and have a decent correct count. Working in a jail, I tend to not eat the lunch we provide. Not wasting calories on their non tasty, deep fried, starchy food! So on those occasions, subway it is.

Have you ever requested information from a non-Chain, and ifnso, how'd it go over? I tend to just try to eyeball, quick add a few hundred extra calories to play it safe, and hope for at least maintenence!

Yeah that makes sense. I just tend not to be filled up on something like a dunkin donuts wrap when I could eat a giant salad for the same amount of calories. I eat those flatbread things in like 4 bites.

I have never requested calorie information. I will sometimes ask if veg is going to be sautéed or simple questions like that. It sounds like you eat out a bit more than I do though. I would probably be doing the same if I were buying my lunch more often.

My go to is quail. It's never too spicy and fun to eat. I log the birds, a tablespoon of marinade, and add a tablespoon or more of oil.

I keep the tortillas for anyone that wants them.

I tasted quail at a church cookout once, they had grilled it and it was yummy! My mexican restaurant won't offer that, though. Incredibly basic place!

I do tend to eat out a good bit. 2-3 times a month at work, and the man and I don't cook a lot on the weekends, so maybe once a week. Our 12-16 hour days can be tiring. I've been meal prepping lately on weekends though, so I have a basis for meals to throw some veggies or the such with. He got tickled the other day when I had three huge saute pans full of chicken, and lots of two serving containers of rice thrown around the kitchen. Doesn't complain when it's heated and ready for dinner though. ;)

I love green chicken enchiladas something fierce, by far my favorite sit-down entree. Al pastor burritos also are great. But I'm really cutting back on the Mexican food lately with the weight stuff. Hell, I could eat 1000 calories in chips and salsa before the food even comes out.

    Dem chips doe!

I'm definitely gonna go run here in a bit to bank a few extra hundred calories. I try to center all my meals around a basic concept now, even when eating less healthy: lotsa protein, lotsa veggies, a tad of bread, and minimal oils and unhealthy fats. We will see how tonight goes. Been a while since I've had a restaurant meal that I'm clueless on calorie wise

My go-to is shrimp fajitas -- but just eat the shrimp and veggies (no tortillas) and black beans with a small bit of guacamole.

I usually go for pork chile verde at our neighborhood place. It comes with rice and black or retried beans. I'm not a big plan rice water so I often ask them to sub veggies instead. Usually 6 inch flour tortillas, I make one tortilla with the pork, beans and sour cream and them eat the rest without the tortillas. Our family splits one basket of chips and salsa and we don't get refills. I get a corona light or a skinny margarita and am usually out for around 750-800 cals.

I just went to mexican. Had fajitas with steak and shrimp, veggies, a salad instead of the rice and beans. I mixed it all together and topped it with guac and salsa! It was delicious, and I didn't feel deprived.

I did. Was just mindful of calories. I had dry grilled chicken fajitas, one corn tortilla, and a handful of chips.

I went over my weekly calories this week, but I am still satisfied that I was well under maintenence!
