Do you share your food diary with friends?

I used MFP for years and did not share my food diary because I knew I my food plan didn't match what the food police would think was perfect. Recently I did decide to share my diary with friends because if they are truly friends they understand that I have flaws in my diet but it doesn't change my focus of becoming healthy. I'm just wondering if other people share their food diary or keep it private and why?

I was just wondering about this the other day... Mine is open, and I've been curious about those who keep their diaries private. Personally, I enjoy looking at other people's food choices, partially to get ideas, to find similarities, but also just to be nosy. Let people judge. If someone has a problem with what I'm eating or drinking throughout the day, their opinion isn't going to affect me. However, if some MFP user might look at my log and have some useful advice, that's great.3

No, I don't. By choice I have no friends in MFP and my profile, food and exercise diaries are private.2

Mine is public. I don't care if people know I eat a ton of "junk food", or at least food that is atypical for people on diets - if I were to write a diet book it would be titled "How to eat like crap and lose weight anyway".
Nobody really makes negative comments, but if they did, oh well. 111 lb on the scale is proof I'm doing just fine.5 -
Mine's open. I don't think any of my friends have ever commented negatively on what I eat and if they did - I wouldn't give a Flip because what I've been doing has worked for me tremendously!1

Mine is open to friends..maybe open to public too, I guess I'll check that. I used to not want people to see when I binge and then realized no one is perfect and if they judge me..well, that's their problem. Also I do like to see what other people eat. And I do get inspiration especially when I see lots of produce.

Only to friends, and the only friend who would be interested is my PT. can't imagine anyone body else would be interested.0

Yep, this. Mine was private when I first started, because I don't eat the way many people on the forums seem to think you should and I was nervous to have people see that, but after a while I decided to open it to friends. If it helps other people to see that you can eat pizza, chocolate and other so-called 'bad' foods and still lose weight, then great!
If anyone were to berate me for the way I eat (which no one has), I think that's more their problem than mine. What I'm doing is working for me and I can see it being sustainable long-term, which is what's most important to me. If someone else has a problem because I ate something processed (oh, the horror!!), then tough.
I do think it's a personal decision, though, and if someone really doesn't want to share their diary then it's up to them. Some people feel it keeps them more honest if they know others can't see what they're actually eating, and others find the opposite!

I keep mine private because that's just the way I am. I'm only accountable to myself. In the real world I get comments about my food choices which I ignore. Mostly it's from people that have no clue about current nutrition trends that are stuck in the "eggs, fat, carbs, beer, sugar, salt, blah, blah are bad for you" line of thinking.0

If people want to look at my diary, it's open.1

I keep mine open to public. I think it's because when I comment on other people's threads I want them to know i'm honest and trying to be open to them. I don't want them to look at my profile and think they shouldn't at least consider my advice because i'm not even who I say I am. (I see some profiles and i wonder if that's their real pic or are they just trolls etc.)1

My diary is public. You don't have to be my friend to view it.
I really don't care if people look or not. I'm eating the way that suits me not looking for some award. If it helps someone to see it that is nice.1 -
My dairy is open and I talk about some of the "junk" I eat fairly often.0

Open. I don't log for some periods. At other times I'm pretty focused on it.
My food choices are a bit strange since I spend my time between France and Germany and comments reflect that.
Never had negative comments - nor would it matter if I did - I eat for myself.0 -
How can I tell if mine is open or not? I have no clue! Thanks!0

Absolutely I keep my diary open for friends. That is how we grow, that is how we get ideas, and that is how we keep going. If I have a friend that keeps their diary private, I delete them. Diet experts all agree that transparency is very important during the weight-loss journey.2

I did, but then when I got off track I closed it to hold myself accountable and not make it look better for others looking at it.0

Mine is open, and i log EVERYTHING, no point hiding the truth! Didnt particularly open my diary for anyone's input, although I would always be happy to hear it. I think if you are on here for the motivation from others, it is better to have it open.X1

My diary is open, always has been. I've been here almost 3 years and lost over 70 lbs, and have been on maintenance for awhile now, so I guess whatever I'm doing has worked.............even the wine, tequilla, dark chocolate, pizza and CHEESE............occasionally!0

I'm not sure why sharing a food diary is an issue for anyone. Do people get harassed about it or something? I always thought that if you weren't making goals, that you would want people to look at it and give you ideas. Yes there are a few people that feel compelled to tell you what you 'need to do' and how you are all wrong in everything you are doing. Just ignore them. It's your diet, your diary, your weight loss. Mine is public, I have only been on here a few weeks (but in my body reshaping program for 17 months) but I don't care who sees it.1

Public.
I want transparency in my relationship with food & exercise. Besides, we really can't hide what we eat- our bodies always tell the truth.0 -
I don't share because, as the default is closed, opening it is an implied invitation for people to look, and people who look will comment, and I'm not interested in what anyone thinks of what I eat.1

Public to all. I be heard some folks have had judgey comments, but I never have. (Knock on wood.) Wouldn't matter. I'll do me and you do you. Lost over 85 pounds and have kept it off for a couple years now. My style obviously works for me. I look and feel better at 45 than I did at 30 (wasn't overweight at 30).0

Some people like myself, make personal notes in the comment section of their food and exercise diaries that don't like to share with others. So as you said in the bolded section of your posting, I/we see no need to share any of that with perfect strangers.2
