The title is self explanatory. I've lost 30 ish lb so far since I started. When I got down to 145 I took a break ( I know I should have ) and focused on just maintaining, which kinda worked, I just went back to 148, stayed at this for over a month. 3 days ago I decided to get back into it, I went back to me 1200 calories and.. first day I gained 1.8 lb. I was like ' wtf ' but ended up thinking it was no big deal, probably water weight or something. Then the day after.. an other 2.2 lb?! And this morning 1.5 lb again? I almost feel like crying I really don't know what's wrong. The only thing I can think about is that it ' could ' be period weight since I'm getting them soon enough but even then that's crazy?!

Age : 19
Height : 5'4
Starting weight : 174lb
Current weight : 153.3

I want to go down to 130-135 lb. I'm a vegan, do at least 1 hour a day of exercise ( Biking, walking, jogging, workouts ).
So can anyone explain to me why I've been gaining weight at an alarming state despite the calorie deficit? Should I lower more??

You aren't gaining on 1200 cals a day.

If you are due TOM then yes, a gain of up to 5lbs for some people occurs, I usually gain around 2lbs of water weight during my period, that can last up to 7 days.

Are you weighing your food? logging accurately?

Its too soon to tell if your gain is just water weight from extra sodium/ more carbs than usual.

If you are accurately tracking your calories then just bear with it, you will start to lose, it takes time and patience.

And no, don't lower your cals below 1200, you should also be eating back some of those exercise calories. (50-75% of them)

Your body knows what to do. Just keep calorie-counting and exercising and let it do its thing.
(Edit: unless you have heart failure or other condition that could leave you fluid overloaded- in that case, talk to your doctor  )

Have patience, I gain 5-7lbs on average during TOM. It'll go away.
Also, are you using a food scale to weigh any food that's not a liquid? You don't have much to lose, you have to be much more precise when you're down to this range.

In addition to the sensible posts above, change the batteries in your scale if it's digital.

You just changed my world...I never even thought to change the batteries! Maybe that's why my numbers have been off lately...

I know women who see a 10 lb gain on the scale everytime they get their period. Believe me, it isn't crazy to believe at all. If it's coming soon, that's likely your answer about the weight gains. You definitely aren't gaining fat weight if you're truly eating 1200 calories, and certainly not in less than a week's time.
Maybe for now, stay off of the scale and try only weighing about once a week to get your focus off of the scale. Otherwise, you'll drive yourself crazy at this rate, OP.
Also...patience. I know it's hard, but if you follow the formula, it will come off.
    Good luck!

Yep... that would be me. giphy.gif

I stay away from the scale during that time. No need to see how much I gain.

You don't want to do that. That'll make it worse. Dehydrating yourself will stall weight loss very fast or make weightless a lot harder
