Reading through the reviews has made me nervous about purchasing one. I can't afford much. $50 at the most. Do any of you have any recommendations, from personal experience, of a specific bar to purchase? While I know you get what you pay for I need something that will work for at least 6 months. I am 204 lbs so it obviously needs to support that much weight.

A doorway pull up bar is about $30. Get the type that hangs off the top moulding.. Cut up an old towel and wrap the ends of the bar to prevent damage to the doorway.frame. Should last for years.

Do you have an aversion to signing up for a gym with a pull up bar? (Most have them)

I have the beachbody one ($55 I think if purchased separately) because it came with the P90X program I used a few years ago, but there are ones that look virtually identical on Amazon for $20-30. Something like this:

    http://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002YQUP7Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1464638371&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=pull+up+bar+doorway&dpPl=1&dpID=416jKELyrhL&ref=plSrch

Hangs over the door. The one I have had no problem supporting my 200-215 lb husband. But they should all have clearly stated weight limits. Bonus...I got a suspension trainer I hang from it that works well if you want more later on.

You can get some pipe and flanges. Make your own if you have ceiling joists you can attach to

Buy used? I don't know how much room you have but I've seen quite a few pull up/dip stand combos on sale used for around that price.

I have an Iron Gym bar. It's worked well for me.
