Fasting is dangerous
http://www.livestrong.com/article/442148-the-dangers-of-fasting/
"In addition to the side effects that can commonly occur as the result of fasting, such as dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle aches and anxiety, there are more serious problems that can arise. If you fast too long, your body may go into starvation mode, which can lead to anemia, hypoglycemia -- low blood sugar, and electrolyte imbalances that can lead to cardiac arrest and coma, according to Michael Picco at Mayo Clinic.com. Kidney and liver failure can also occur. Some people have died from prolonged fasts, usually because they were in a weakened state before fasting."
- Don't fast any longer than 20 hours
- If you feel dizzy, eat something
Starvation mode in a healthy person of a healthy weight sets in after 72 hours of not eating ANYTHING, longer for those who are overweight or obese. Intermittent fasting is used up to 20 hours. The article you posted raises some good points that IF'ers should be aware of, but has no gravitas here as IF'ers would not be fasting to the lengths that are suggested in the article.
I think you also missed this in the end paragraph... "For most people, fasting for 24 to 48 hours is not harmful"
This is a troll about unsupported references:)
While fasting is not good for me as I have blood sugar spikes, I have no opinion on it for healthy individuals.
Wtf, you just said "Fasting is dangerous" then "I have no opinion on it for healthy individuals"?
I smell a big hairy troll with half a brain.0 -
There are two sources in that article....
You have google. Use it.
I'm not the one making health claims. Be prepared to support anything that you say.
He did support it. Don't keep trashing things if you've been presented with evidence and can't be bothered to educate yourself, too. If I see a hinky claim on a website, the FIRST thing I do is go off and research it myself. It's amazing what you can learn if you want to.0 -
I might write a disclaimer on my MFP profile that says everything I say will be unsupported, without scientific evidence and totally devoid of any studies to back it up. It may even be unintelligible.0

As an aside, I follow 5:2 and 4:3 and it does seem to shift weight in a different way to other methods I have tried. I am not a qualified medical practitioner so I cannot explain the why and the wherefore, just that it is an interesting process to try, if done sensibly.0

If you want to know more experiences from people who tried it join the group INTERMITTENT FASTING here, it's great!0

Came across this and couldn't help myself...Unfortunately, they aren't active links, but if you are interested you can cut and paste into your browser and access them.

I don't get urges to snack anymore because I did a 20:4/19:5 fast for around 4 months. It SERIOUSLY helps cut down on your cravings at night as you know you can't eat. Now I just don't feel like it anymore0
