Trying

So I have been in a cast for the last 3 months and not able to do much. Just got it off and have gained a lot of weight:( I will be having surgery for the same injury I'm the next few months so want to try to loose some between now and then. Problem is walking hurts, so does running swimming and anything that uses your ankles. Any suggestions for cardio workouts that can be done without the gym? Trying to be psotive but not feeling it right now.

Be careful with your injury and know that losing pounds is 90% about what you eat. Exercise is a bonus and good for you for so many things, but they best way to get the scale to move the direction you eat is to eat at a calorie deficit. Weigh and measure your portions and be honest about your food tracking! Cardio might be something to just wait for when you are healed up enough!

When you are out of your cast and/or boot, swimming, rowing or something that has less impact on your ankles might be a better option.

Do you swim? I think that's fairly low impact.

Swimming is going to be your best bet, all other true cardio workouts will tax your ankle even more. You could try a hand-bike, but it's almost impossible to get your heart rate high enough to consider it a cardio workout.

Something like Pilates or Yoga might help with toning and strengthening, and some Pilates workouts can get your heart rate up a bit, but probably not to the true cardio limit.

I'm not able to exercise, either, due to an autoimmune muscle disease. Focus on your diet to lose weight. I've found that a low-carb diet minimizes cravings and suppresses my appetite, making it easy to stick with. There's a great Low-carb group on MFP if you want to learn more about it.

Have you done some PT to work on your ankle? If not, that's where you might want to start in terms of exercise.

Thanks guys:) Swimming is out as it moves.my ankle too much. My tendons don't stay in place. Surgery will.fix that. I am working on the food part.
