poor body image

I am looking for some support with negative body image. I am really struggling. And then I feel guilty about it because it makes me feel shallow. I don't judge other people by their weight, why am I so hard on myself? To the point where I avoid social things because nothing fits, nothing looks good, I'm embarrassed, etc.... It's really bumming me out. I am only about 5 lbs over weight, but 20 lbs above where my clothes fits and the 20 lbs have come on only over the past year. So it's very noticeable and distressing. I stress eat, I snack too much, I know why it's there. does anyone else go through this? I am trying to be positive, I exercise daily and try to stay on track but when I mess up I am SO mean to myself and grumpy to everyone around me. Help me get out of this self absorbed rut! Any advice? Commiseration? Thanks all. I just feel like a hungry, grumpy grump with tight pants =(

Yeah, I am kind of dysmorphic, according to my kids. It's funny in a way - I take pictures of myself and look dumpy to me, but the Fiance showed me a picture he took of me getting ready and it was beautiful. It's like even through a camera I don't see what others do.

Please try to appreciate your body for what it can do, enjoy it, enjoy being embodied. There is a lot more good in having a body than just having it look good. You have kids? Your body made those! That is freaking miraculous. You can walk, communicate, eat, breathe, do things, that's all because you have a body.

Take good care of it because it's yours. Love it. The weight will come back off, don't worry. Just stick with the exercise and eat less. It took a year to put it on, give it a year to come off. Slowly, slowly, you will get there, and probably look even better than before if you lose the weight while working out more.

Treat your body well and it will treat you well. Time will only be on your side when you are on Time's side as well, don't fret. Just some patience and some will power and you will love the body you're in again once more. I'm stuck right now too with how you feel but I remind myself everyday that I won't be 50lbs overweight forever as long as I stick with it. I also struggle with having eczema and alopecia (I'm bald, wig in the profile pic lol) but I started eating whole foods on a paleo diet to try and heal my body. No matter what, you're a beautiful person inside and out. Good luck!

You deserve clothes that fit. No matter what size you are. Buy some at the thrift store if you had to.

Sounds like the clothes that fit you are a size too small for a healthy weight for you. Happy shopping!

Sometimes I feel like a hungry bloated grumpy grump premenstrually. I switch to maintenance calories for a few days.

Here's a great DVD that can help with negative self talk: You Can Heal Your Life, the movie, expanded version

What I find helps is progress pictures. Take every 2-4 weeks and seeing the differences and improvements in your body might help you feel better about yourself.
