1 lb or 2 lbs a week and being 47 years old!

Not sure my age matters, I don't think so but I mentioned it anyway. Is it better to lose 2 lbs or 1 lb a week? I have put 22 lbs on since last November and I am restarting today. I have 37 lbs to lose.

You don't have alot of weight to lose, so 1lb a week is reasonable and your less likely to be discouraged.1

Hi, I'm the same.. almost 47 with about 40 lbs I would love to get rid of.. I'm not going for any certain goal in any amount of time. I guess we'll see what happens.. I've lost a good amount in 10 days, so, we'll see. Good luck!2

Saying you don't have too much to lose up to 1lb a week is reasonable and wont mean too low a calorie intake.
I'm also 47 btw, (well in 4 days time I will be), I was happy to lose 1/2lb per week when I was in my weight loss phase, I ate 1600 cals plus some exercise calories back to achieve that. I didn't want to feel hunger all the time so slower loss was more doable for me.
Been in maintenance for 3 yrs now and maintain on 2100-2300 calories.1 -
I am 47 and the age does not matter. 22 pounds 7 months sounds disheartening and while I know you want to get it off the sooner the better, but I would say do it 1 pound week or even .5. The slower you do it, when you return to your normal weight, learning how to get back to your maintaining calories will be much easier.
I am short so MFP does not give me much of deficit, so to loose it healthy and per the MFP goals, it will only allow me to loose it (basically ounces a week) slower unless I want to dip outside of an unhealthy deficit. I exercise a lot (running and lifting weights) so all the calories I can get while eating a deficit to loose weight is crucial for me.
I will make a grand suggestion, if you do not own a food scale, get one pronto. The sooner you get one and start using, the better your weight losee journey will be successful.

I have started with a goal of losing 54 lbs. Just turned 44 and thought it would never come off. 48 days of tracking and I have lost just over 15 lbs. Sometimes it seems so slow but when you do the math its coming off as quick as it should. Age hasnt hindered me yet except the aches and pains and I just push through them.2

I have updated my profile to lose 47 pounds because at 37 pounds my BMI is still to high. I really want to be in a healthy range so 145 pounds is my weigh loss goal and I am 5' 5".0
