edited December 2024 in Fitness and Exercise
I do a fitness DVD everynight, it's the ministry of sound pump it up DVD, it lasts a little over an hour overall, but my personal best is 36 minutes then I literally can't do anymore… but today, I did it this afternoon with just being in the house and bored, so I thought to do the DVD before I'm tempted to just eat from being bored (one of the reasons I gained a lot of weight after pregnancy) on an average daily basis I eat about 900-1000 calories, my net calorie intake is supposed to be 1200, but I can't physically eat that much, or I start to feel a little icky!
So my question is, can you do a DVD like that more than once a day on that amount of calorie intake? Is it safe todo?
Only asking because I don't want to make myself ill in the long run
Thanks in advance :) x

How did you become overweight if you cannot eat more than 900 calories?

At 900-1000 calories per day, you shouldn't be exercising at all really. Those numbers are just too low. Up your calories. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You didn't gain weight by not being able to eat so yea, you can eat more.

Granted I can't eat more than that, but I wasn't really doing anything and was living on practically everything that's bad for you

Eating 900 calories a day is worse for you than a serving of ice cream.

So eat more calorie dense food. Are you weighing your solids and measuring your liquids?

what you eat doesn't matter. it's all about the amount of calories you consume. You could eat burgers and pizza each day and still lose weight if the total calories are low enough, or you could eat vegetables and chicken breast each day and gain weight if you're consuming too much calories.

This begs the question: are you actually weighing all the food you eat on a digital food scale or are your using measuring cups, spoons or guessing?

Wow… didn't realise this was a bashing page!! I posted this for advice, not for people to have a go at me… I won't force myself to eat when I'm not hungry thanks very much!

I ordered measuring cups and food scales a few days ago, just waiting for them to be delivered

No one is bashing you at all. Not even sure where you get that from. Just telling you the mistakes you are making. We have been there.

Also you are probably eating more than you think anyway.

That's a great step. Then you can see how many calories you are eating. You may be eating more than 900-1000 if you have just been eyeballing. That's a good thing.

First couple comments seemed like bashing to me
Telling me what I can and can't eat, sorry but I think I know what I can tolerate better than anyone else

If you didn't intend it to be bashing then fair enough I'm sorry, but it seemed to me like that's what was intended by the comments

I apologize that you took it that way. Many people come in here and have cut their calories drastically because they think they have to eat chicken and broccoli all day long and make losing weight miserable. The point is that you can eat whatever you want but you should be hitting your calorie goals first and foremost. That's step 1 and you aren't doing that.

That being said, you are probably eating more than you think as that is usually the case for someone not weighing and measuring.

More often than not, people put limiters on the types of foods they eat based on perceptions of healthy and not. Removing those barriers and looking at diets in terms of context will allow you to hit your calorie goals. The below thread should give you enough information on the foods you should eat to increase your intake.

Thanks, suppose that list makes sense lol. I cut out most things with a high fat/calorie count

Im guessing that's probably a mistake

Fat is extremely healthy for you, especially unsaturated fats. Fats also regulate hormones which affect skin, hair, nails and metabolic functions. So yes, fats kind of important. Carbs are also very beneficial. The provide energy. And plant-based carbs have been shown to improve cholesterol. So, overall, it's about finding a good balance of nutrient dense foods. But you can also remember, you can fit in junk food. Diets are about context. And a 900 calorie/day diet will do more harm than good.

Great to hear that you ordered a food scale. Good idea  If you get it do weigh everything at first. And especially if a package says something like "1 cup (56 grams)" please do weight everything to find out how much those 56 grams really are because very often this very often is just half or three quarters of a cup and you would be eating much more if you went by the cup measurement.
