Stuck with pneumonia

Soooooo my doctor tells me I have pneumonia and I can't work out for at LEAST 2 weeks. This is driving me insane since I normally work out two times a day. I've lost about 25lbs in a little over a month and I'm afraid that since I'm not working out I'll slowly begin gaining the weight back. Has anyone else gone through this before? What did you do to help you not to gain weight?

When I had surgery last year, I had to take two full weeks off with absolutely no exercise. My recommendation is to count your calories and stay under your net goal everyday. I did not gain weight during that time. Also, after having the two weeks off, I came back stronger in the gym. My cardio was weaker, but my strength was better. Take care of yourself and follow all directions over the next couple weeks and you'll come out of this just fine!

    I've had pneumonia four times.

I'm a runner. I run for an hour at a time (treadmill usually) about 3-4 times per week.

I ran with pneumonia. I could make it about 30 minutes before the coughing would get bad enough for me to need to stop. My head would swim. My chest would feel like I had a band around it, restricting me from getting enough air. My eyes would have little white spots dancing in front of them.

It's not that you CAN'T exercise with pneumonia. You can. It'll hurt like a sonovab!tch, you'll sweat like you NEVER have before... and after your hot shower, you'll sleep like a bear in winter.

The first 3 times I had pneumonia, I didn't exercise. I had it progressively longer each time, even with the steroids (I have a penicillin allergy, so... it takes me longer to ditch pneumonia too).

Gotta say... running for half the time, at about 2/3 my regular speed, just as often through pneumonia killed my illness about twice as fast. I slept better on those days. I hurt more on those days. But I wasn't "down & out", I felt better emotionally because I was still "in control" of what I can & can't do.

Not sayin' you shouldn't have someone nearby when you exercise cuz if you go overboard, you're going to NEED that puffer he gave you... and if your case is bad enough, it's probably a REALLY bad idea to exercise anyway. Everyone's physical condition is different, and what was alright for me, is probably not alright for everyone.

Just sayin'... you can go for a walk still. Nothing is stopping you there. You can probably sit on a stationary bike, and pedal with a book or something. You don't HAVE to be "stuck" not exercising. Just don't get your heartrate too high, & don't over-do it. And make sure someone is around in case you need help.
