I'm going to Europe in a few weeks and I'm terrified of flying. I've gone to Europe a few times a few years ago, but for some reason I have so much anxiety about this flight. Any good tips on how to reduce anxiety about flying or while flying??

Take a benadryl right before you get on the plane

I agree with all of the above...take a Benadryl, have some alcohol, then also take an "original" Dramamine, and sleep through the flight!
    Have fun in Europe:-)

I fly a lot and I love it. 4 continents & 46 countries/ territories. If you can work out either the day of or evening before you fly. Have an ipod? mp3 player? play calming or meditation music or simply really fun stuff that you like (AbbA, Disney, Classical or Big Band). Stay away from heavy stuff, serious stuff. Put your headphones on for takeoff. Also, take melatonin. It is a sleep aide that also helps with jet leg. (Its like eating a big turkey dinner).
Bring a tablet with some ebooks. Keeping busy will help you keep calm. Also, stay away from coffee, tea, alcohol and soda. Drink water or juice and I recommend asking for the bottle or can. Staying hydrated helps too.
If its traveling that has you nervous and not just the flight...Pack everything. I recommend photographing everything you pack and putting the items in ziplock bags. (keeps them organized, dry, and easy to know if your bags are searched. They will rarely dump out a zippy bag full of socks or undies. Label each bag ie. 7 pair undies, 8 pair socks. Have a copy of the itinerary in your carry-on, phone, personal item and checked bag. Have list of packed items with pics on your phone. I had a bag gate checked on my way to a wedding. My bridesmaid dress, shoes etc never made it off the tarmac. I ended up having nothing when I arrived in California. But having pics of items and lists will help ensure that you are compensated should your stuff get lost. I got a check for $750. My stuff was never found.

Flying is still one of the safest ways to travel. As soon as you have a negative/anxious thought just swap it for a positive one. Also vodka may help

Take a look at the statistics on transportation-related deaths.

If you are still nervous than chalk it up to being irrational and drink heavily or take a sedative. Of course, that will cause actual damage to your body, but meh.

Honestly I have flown a number of times but still feel uneasy during take off!
I found what helped me was making sure I booked a seat next to my boyfriend/family, so I feel a little more supported. Also googling "why not to be scared of flying" actually helps, as the statistics for something going wrong are ridiculously low!!

Alternatively, if you're happy for somebody to put you to sleep and wheel you onto the plane, I've always thought that'd be a more promising method. :bawling::innocent:

Oh boy, my worse anxiety which I only overcame a year ago with cognitive therapy. Before then it was xanax all the way and the zanax hangovers. A good cognitive counselor will help you ease back into the flying experience and also tackle related anxieties - like is my family okay when I travel. Yours is a very common anxiety and you do not need to keep using alcohol and drugs to enjoy flying.
