Hi, if anyone else has this issue... Do you still eat raw veggies, seeds, nuts, popcorn? I'm scared to eat anything like that, and I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of healthy foods...!!!

This is probably a question best addressed by your doctor, any specialists, and registered dietician.

My grandmother had diverticulitis. I know she had to modify her eating some, but I couldn't remember how. But I'm not sure that even one person's experience can answer the question for someone else in this case. Talk to your doctor.

I have had diverticulitis 3 times now. I finally chose to change how I eat, and since my body is not happy when I choose supplements for my fiber, I have to eat it. I was told that I did not have to eliminate anything from my diet, as the ideas of avoiding popcorn, strawberries, nuts, seeds, etc, is old school logic and the great majority of sufferers of diverticulois aren't affected by them. I haven't been eating super great recently, but my diary is wide open if you would like to see how I eat. I've found that drinking 10 glasses of water a day (12oz glasses), and shooting for 50 grams of fiber, keeps things moving along nicely.

I used to be a morning cold cereal girl. I now eat oatmeal with loads of fruit cut up into it. This is currently berry season and today I just got a bunch of berries. I love having blackberries and other fruit in it, with a teaspoon of cocoa cooked into the oatmeal for a chocolatey flavor.

When I have bread, I choose Oroweat's Double Fiber, because it is 80 calories per slice and gives me 5 grams of fiber per slice. I sometimes end my day having it toasted with a very light sprinkling of cinnamon/sugar on top, and no butter. It's a sweet way to round up my fiber for the day. I also love stove popped popcorn, which I've been eating a lot of lately.

I shoot for 2 veggies to serve with my evening meals. It fills up without filling out. I don't put sauces or cheeses on it, and either steam or roast if I don't serve it raw.

I hope this helped answer your question. Best of luck staying free of issues. Diverticulitis is painful and the liquid diet to go on for 3 days while it clears up, with the help of antibiotics, sucks. I've not had an issue for a few years now.

I have diverticulitis. About 25 years ago I had such a bad infection that it almost killed me. At this point it's not really an issue but it's something I keep in the back of my mind.

I've been very fortunate as I really haven't had an attack of it in years. Idewey everything but I do it in moderation but there are certain things I do and avoid. I don't eat iceberg lettuce and I don't eat celery. Also I don't eat tomatoes more than once a week. If I have a slice of pizza or two maybe I'll have another slice a week later

Like a couple posters previously said best thing to do is talk to your doctor or medical professional. Everybody reacts differently and you really have to watch out.

my grandma had this and they told her not to eat anything with seeds or any nuts, they said if she had raw fruits or veggies that contained seeds to remove them before eating them. but I agree talk to your dr as cases may vary person to person.

Definitely talk to your doc. When I had an infection my doctor had me eating no fiber for a few weeks while I healed, and then gradually adding fiber up to 25-30 grams per day, but she told me specifically not to avoid any foods after I was better.

I have diverticulosis but have never had an attack. The only food I had to avoid was potatoes.
