Newbie here. Been logging for a week and always managed to stay below calorie count BUT I never really hit my macros... Carbs scare me so I tend to eat lots of protein. How important are macros?

Calories are king for weight loss. As long as you hit your calorie goals, you should lose weight (assuming you don't have any medical issues that might mess with this).

Your macros fat/carbs/protein can help with different things. For instance, fat helps with things like hormone balance, cell regrowth, and healthy skin and nails. Carbs help give you energy. Protein can help retain and repair your muscles.

It's important to remember that the macro split MFP gives you for fat/protein/carbs is just one suggested goal. There are a lot of ways that you can configure those numbers and happy & healthy.

Most nutritionist and trainer I have talked to have told me to do 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. That being said I struggle to hit my macros when I just log caloroes with MFP so I have started a bit of an exchange system instead that gets me there. 4 servings of veggies, 3 servings of fruit, 4 servings of meat/protein, 3 servings of grains, 1 serving of healthy fat (like hummus or avocado)
