Its funny - I've been using Myfitnesspal App to log my weight for the last 18 months and didn't realise there was this forum. I've lost close to 30kg's/66lbs in 18 months.

In November 2014 had emergency heart surgery that I certainly wasn’t planning on in November 2014. If anyone wants a free ride in an ambulance – go to your doctor and tell him you have been experiencing a “tingling numbness” in your left arm !! They thought I’d had a stroke and after a week of negative tests they gave me an echo-cardiagram – wired up & running on a treadmill ! The cardiologists reviewed the results and asked ” Do I have private health insurance ?” I raised my eyes and tentatively replied “yes” and that was my one way ticket straight into surgery to have THREE stents fitted to THREE 90% blocked arteries ! Luckily we caught it as I was probably days away from a massive heart attack !

So while I was recovering the next day I decided I wanted to be around to be the best Dad and Husband I could and that meant changing a few things and getting healthy ! There's a huge amount of nitty gritty details of what what followed in my journey to get healthy – The simple moral of the story was ” Get off your *kitten* and do something” – doesn’t matter if its about health, fitness, weightloss, life, careers, or relationships. How to actually do that was hard no doubt and I learnt a lot along the way.

I had a tough journey , bumps along the way, ups & downs, lots of hard work and managed to get the health bit sorted out – its been 18 months now. Wow – photos are scary ! I never thought I was fat but the below would seem to indicate I was definitely on the large side ! All up I’ve lost around 30kg is enough and don’t believe I’ll go any further than that. I am fitter than ever ! Have gone from approximately 114kg and size 40 jeans to 84.3kg and baggy 34 jeans !

I've raced a triathlon having not been able to run 10m .. and also race my mountain bike. Am having the time of my life !

Now to help others Get off their arses ! GOYA ! I also lost my job last year so while I am looking for a new job I thought I'd try and help others - I started "GOYA industries" - check it out on facebook and hopefully my blog will develop to help and inspire others

In the meantime I'll hang out here for a bit too !

Cheers
Bill

Great job!! Such a difference. I'm sure diet changes were key too? But definitely getting off our bums helps. Has for me started going to the gym and started losing again 10 lbs since I started April 22nd so yep getting off my "kitten" has helped too. I have a lot of heart trouble in my family's history(especially my mom's side) and I've had hypertension off and on since it started during my pregnancy with my daughter. That was 13 years ago it went down after when my weight dropped. Went up again when I gained some weight back. I dropped it back down and was doing well for years without it. Went to Dr and it was borderline so the put me back on meds and I ended up with anxiety problems that I thought was my heart cardio checked me off good, no problems but later determined to have been panic attacks causing palpitations and shortness of breath. Switched meds which only led to more weight gain. Down over 30 from my highest so much to go but I definitely have the goal to be around for my daughter and avoid heart troubles(or more since hypertension technically is somewhat). I know I get another 50 lbs off and my bp will likely drop to normal.
