Alot of people are confused on this issue...... heavy 4-6 or lighter 8-12reps, which is better for gaining muscle

    It was my understanding that doing a smaller amount of reps with heavier weights is what helps with muscle gain.

    Thanks, ive plateaued for the last month, lifting between 8-12reps. I was thinking of changing it up and going heavier to shock the body.

    You don't need to shock the body, but it may be worth mixing in some lower rep ranges at a heavier weight. Most everything I've read on the subject pushes varying rep ranges, but changing the focus depending on your current goal (strength vs hypertrophy).

    Under 8 reps per set = strength
    8-12 reps per set = hypertrophy
    More than 12 reps per set = enurance

    Thanks for all the advice, i guess to really utilise our body, we should do different rep ranges per week.
