Hi everyone
Despite being a competitive swimmer, I have NEVER been able to do even one pullup. Not even in my youth.
I have just started back at the gym and am wondering if working towards being able to do even one lat pulldown of your body weight should translate to being able to do one pullup. Or is it more complex than that?

Yes it's more complicated than that. A pull-up also requires a fair amount of shoulder strength. The machine isolates the lats. If you want to build into a pull-up start with hinge rows, inverted rows, controlled jumping pull-ups from a box, controlled jumping pull-ups with out a box, strict pull-ups but with no jump from a box to finally a strict pull-ups. A pull-up should be initiated with the shoulders and not the lats or middle back.0

Scooby went over this a few years ago. Although he's quirky to some, he is very knowledgeable and gave back to the lifting community a lot over the years.
