Well I Fell Off The Wagon...Again...

This time a year and a half ago, I was gung-ho about dropping weight and was on my routine clean eating and running at least 3 to 5x a week after work. At the time, I was working nights in the ER and would get off at 6am and go to the gym around the corner and be home and in bed before 8:30am. Mind you, I only had an 8 minute drive home.
Now things changed. Last April, I changed jobs and I now work 12 hour days and have a 30-40 minute drive home. Between the traffic and trying to get home/ready for the next day and get to bed at a decent time, I haven't had the time to run or do much at all on my rotations where I work. Right now, I'm doing the job of two people so I'm always working on my days off and I just know the scale is sliding back up. I've become lax and enjoyed too much in the beer department and I'm kicking my own butt for that.

Working 80+ hours over 7 days is draining and I seemed to have lost my mojo of sorts. Last year, I would make it a point to hit the pavement on my days off and now, it's like can't seem to catch a day off to just catch my breath. I have a fitbit that I love to death but I seem to be hitting my steps less and less and I hate it. My job now is a lot less running around an ER like I'd like and more on the admin side.

There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day anymore. People always say "well you just have to make time" and that's a lot easier said than done. Sometimes, there's just genuinely not enough hours in the day.

I try to eat clean, I'm well aware I need to drink less and I know there's no magic pill that can make the fat go away.

Guess I just needed to vent and put it in writing that I know I fell off the wagon and I'm going to try to make a better attempt at being better than I was.

I have fallen off the exercise wagon also. I maintain my weight for the most part eat more gain 5+ lbs then stick with it to loose it then repeat :(

I can feel myself getting squishy again and want to tone up yet find myself NOT exercising. I just need to do it and I think I'll stick with it. It's just getting past the first wk soreness and mental excusses.

Good luck too you. Does your job offer access to their gym or pool (assuming still at Hospital, they often have 1)? Find the closest one on your route home. If you have to drive by it then easier to just pull right in.

Instead of thinking you need to be all "gung ho" and feeling like you failed when you don't get all that exercise in, try doing it ONE DAY AT A TIME. Do what you can, when you can and don't beat yourself up for it. Log your food and worry about staying within calories, not whether or not you were able to eat clean. It's great if you can fit it all in, you sound like you are your toughest critic. You do what you can, when you can and it might be slower but it will happen.
