Paragard birth control

It's been 11 months since I had my baby. I was doing great nm loosing weight until I got my paragard placed. It seemed like once I got it I gained weight fast! No longer gaining weight but I've been dieting and worki ng out since January and I haven't had any weight loss. I didn't know if anyone else had this issue also.

Paragard is nonhormonal, so I can't think of any reason why it should impact your weight. How long ago did you get it placed? Are you logging your food, weighing solids and measuring liquids? Are you eating back exercise calories? Are you still giving yourself extra calories for breastfeeding? What are your stats? How much weight had you lost before your paragard was placed? Have you been taking measurements?

Isn't paraguard the copper one that doesn't have synthetic hormones?

Perhaps your doc placed a Mirena in instead of a paraguard?

Paragard is, indeed, non hormonal. Your weight problem would likely subside if you ate less.

no I don't think so...based on what I read it is the copper IUD.

Even if it was hormonal it doesn't cause "weight gain" per say. It will cause water retention and increased appetite which can lead to weight gain.

It is up to us to decide if it's appetite or hunger that drives us.

Paragard is nonhormonal. Very unlikely that it is doing anything to your weight.

I had my Paragard placed about 6 months ago, and chose it specifically because it was non-hormonal. As such, it shouldn't affect your weight or your moods. I've had much more luck with losing weight on Paragard than on any of the hormonal birth controls. I'd talk to your doctor if you think it's having an effect on you, or perhaps there's something else going on.

Sorry, autocorrect got me there. I went back and edited to put in non but you're faster than me.

ETA: OP, I got my Paragard in 2010. I was already fat but didn't gain any weight due to it. In 2014 I got in gear and made a concerted effort to lose weight by eating less and moving more and it worked like a charm.
