Ease up or work thru it?

I just started exercising five days ago. I chose water aerobics and water jogging because of the fact I have arthritis in my knees, hips and back. I am doing a half hour of water jogging and an hour of a mix of water aerobics and swimming laps. I LOVE it but I find my knees are sore after. Ibuprofen makes them feel better since its just an ache not pain. My question is...do I just keep going or do I ease up? Am I hurting my joints, or do I work thru it?

We can't really know, but I'd be tempted to say switch to just swimming laps and see if that helps.0

To give you a little background I had a double hip replacement last year I have an arthritic knee a bad back and arthritic shoulder.
My first recommendation is to talk to an orthopedic surgeon and find out what's going on in your knees. To me there's no difference between an ache and pain when you have arthritis. 4 years ago I had a little ache in my hip last year I had my hips replaced. To meet all the ibuprofen is doing is masking the issue.
Without knowing your specifics like height weight age activity level before you started exercising I could only give you the following recommendation. You may be exercising too much as a beginner. If you do that routine for 5 days in a row, it may be too much stress on your body. Why not try it for 3 or 4 days a week instead. Your body does need time to recover from physical activity. Plus listen to your body sometimes you just need rest.

Hard to know until you carry on a bit whether it's rest that you need or just your body getting used to doing more activity but I thought it worth mentioning there is a lot of discussion about the benefits of turmeric, and especially when combined with black pepper, in relieving the pain and inflammation of arthritis. One study apparently proved it just as beneficial if not more so than ibuprofen. May be worth researching yourself and perhaps try some supplements - probably wouldn't do any harm except to your wallet, right?0

if you just started exercising , you gotta go easy until your knees and joints can toughen up. also, according to your profile you have 200 lbs to lose, that is extremely hard on your joints carrying that much weight every day and will cause them pain, especially when you start asking more of them than normal. Take it easy with your exercise , start slow and keep it easy and Diet diet diet diet. As the weight falls off your will feel better and can increase your exercise , thats the best thing you can do for your joints.0
