the calorie game

Hi guys! I'm pretty new to the website, although I'm an old pro at calorie counting. I have a question, though, and want to pick your brains, especially those who have been successful in dropping large amounts of weight. When you set your calorie goal (for me it's 1400/day) do you stick to it regardless of exercise, or do you eat more on days you exercise? So if I run and burn about 500 calories, can I safely then eat 500 more calories and still achieve my goal? Lets say I just stick to eating my normal allotment, doesn't that mean I'd only net 900 calories? (which to my understanding is too low). I guess I'm just curious as to what you do.

You are suppose to NET your calorie goal, in your case it would be 1400. So if you went to the gym and burned 400 calories, you'd need to eat 1400 + 400 = 1800 calories that day.

    Because 1800-400=1400 your calorie goal.

If you feel that MFP is overestimating your caloric burn, it's okay to adjust the amount you eat back slightly, some people eat back as few as 50%, I go for 80% and I'm losing just fine.
