Self-Serve Soups and Calories

So this is something that has been bothering me for a while. I enjoy Au Bon Pain soups, and they are pretty healthy (little heavy on the salt), but where I buy them they are self-serve. I have complete control over how much stuff (noodles, chicken, meatballs) is in it versus broth. Does anyone have any idea how the calorie counts are determined? Obviously, the soup is going to have more calories if it's packed with stuff, right?

This is going to be one of those inherent ambiguities of calorie counting. I would look at the overall distribution of "stuff" in the soup in the container and try, without getting nit-picky about it, to have the distribution in my cup match as closely as possible.2
